Can we talk for a second about how confused 1960's legendary-verse godzilla must have been when humans kept pelting him with nuclear warheads which were probably the equivelent of a punch in the face and like 20 years worth of radiation energy? Assuming he figured out that humans were responsible of course. He seems pretty smart in the monster-verse. (I dont acutally know how much energy the 1960's bombing would have given, just generalizing.) He was prob like -

My favourite conclusion @raffleupagus and I came to during one of our many conversations over the G-Fest weekend is that, while it’s a fairly fun idea, bringing Pacific Rim into Legendary’s Godzilla/Kong universe - as so many have theorised about and hoped for - would be like letting Star Wars spill into Close Encounters of the Third Kind - it just wouldn’t work. I don’t want to sound like a killjoy but I’m actually really pleased with that analogy.

I’m really enjoying how much the Kong: Skull Island trailer is hammering home that it’s in canon with Godzilla. Aside from the above very prominent mention of G’14 and a similar tone (to Godzilla’s early trailers, at least), the trailer makes mention of “ancient species” owning the earth long before mankind - which ties in very nicely with Godzilla’s revamped origin as a super-ancient alpha predator. As @astoundingbeyondbelief theorised, I think it’s also a safe bet that John Goodman’s character works (or has worked) for MONARCH. 

The mention of “ancient species” also leads me to think they might already be setting up Godzilla vs. Kong. It’s early days yet, but I’m thinking they’ll establish Godzilla’s and Kong’s respective species as super-ancient natural enemies, with Kong’s species as the hunter, and Godzilla’s as the hunted - which, as others have theorised, would set up Kong as the villain.

This trailer has given me a lot of  confidence in this shared universe Legendary are building, and it seems less and less like a retroactive marketing decision.

I am very excited.
