This comic begins with Starswirl in the Mirror Room. But this room isn’t just a room full of mirrors. It’s a room full of Mirror Portals to other worlds. Celestia says that this is a bad idea. Starswirl thinks as long as nobody knows about them it should be safe. The problem is something knows about it and Shadow creatures flood the room, defeating Starswirl and kidnapping the Kid Princesses.Elsewhere, the Pegasi Legion is being trained by the Mighty Helm’s captain while the rest of the Pillars look on.
Honestly, I do enjoy the interactions these comics have given the pillars. It's something the show could have used but couldn’t since they were seasonal characters. But during the training, Starswirl arrived and told them the news. After recovering, he plans on going back but with a great speech from Stygian, the rest of the Pillars are coming along if Starswirl likes it or not. This issue, Stygian really is stepping up and Rockhoof notices it. They enter the portal and split up, hoping to find a trail.
That’s when Rockhoof talks to Stygian wanting to find out what’s up. He feels the same way about Starswirl but never speaks up since he’s a soldier with a shovel. Starswirl and Stygian are the smart ones so they probably know what they’re doing. This does help show how these two are friends as the rest of the group deal with problems. Rockhoof and Stygian are dealing with Lightning Bugs, the Ladies are dealing with Timber Bears…
And Flash and Starswirl are dealing with a Green Flavored Pony of Shadows. While Starswirl never met him, this guy did. He promises to destroy him again and take the girls, even mentioning how his Starswirl said the same thing about saving the Princesses. More on this later. Meanwhile Stygian finds out he has command over the Lightning Bugs and uses them to find the girls. He sends a flair up and the others arrive. But after the Pony of Shadows talks about his intentions.
He claims they have an infinite power for destruction and plans on using them to attack all realities and make it as empty and corrupt as his. But here’s a question: why don’t he use his own Princesses? He made the claim that he destroyed a Starswirl, who told him he would protect the Princesses like the one we got. Yet he didn’t. If I have to guess, if he was being truthful that he did destroy a Starswirl, he got put in a dimension where he wouldn’t cause any trouble.
But when Luna created a portal, the Pony of Shadows saw an opportunity. In another Mini-Series we’ll see how much this Pony of Shadow’s plans would really work but for now he’s in control and Starswirl thinks the others should cause a distraction while he gets the Girls. But thanks to Rockhoof mentioning the Pony of Shadows doesn't know Stygian, the unicorn steps up and rescues the girls. Even going toe to toe with the Pony of Shadows and commanding a big creature to throw them at Starswirl.
The Pillars escape, with Stygian happy to finally be seen as a hero alongside the others (which either means this further fuels his desire to try to be equal to them or this is all a different universe where Stygian doesn’t become the Pony of Shadows) and Evil Stygian asking if he changed so much he didn’t recognize his old self. Which I think further proves that the Pony of Shadows and Starswirl aren’t as powerful as people think they are.
In Vs Sense I think this is a mess full of holes, but as a story I think it's nice to see Stygian step up and be the big hero. Really showed how he could be an asset and could lead him to becoming the Pony of Shadows of his world. Though with more questions than answers, I don’t think I am going to make this canon with GLAB.
Oh look, it’s me posting my own art on here, but they are just useless doodlesss for now🙂....
Let’s keep this short, am I the only one that ships these two together? Like I don’t even know why I like them together 4 years ago hmm Now they relevant to me now I guess.
(My ship name for them is ✨Sun n’ Shade💕🌒 so I don’t feel weird typing out their long-a** names ack-)
