This is from the "I can Read!" Series of Books. A Beginner friendly book that, as the back of the cover describes, short sentences, familiar words, and simple concepts for children eager to read on their own. So let's see if this book would earn that last part.
We have the Five Main Characters of G5 being referred to as the Mane 5. And this book is basically a recap of everything we know about Misty. From how she became friends with them, secretly working for Opaline, why she did what she had to do. Another thing to note, this one uses screen shots from Tell Your Tale, with one sentence summaries of specific episodes that feature Misty trying to get Sparky.
You wanna know what makes Opaline truly a villain who can not be redeemed? Misty brought her a smoothie to make her happy, and Opaline never even said thank you. The book also says that Opaline was the one to kidnap Sparky, not Misty. And between that event and Missing the Mark is a Tell Your Tale episode we'll be visiting in the future. Sunny defeats Opaline, is proud of Misty for choosing Friendship, and now Misty gets her Cutie Mark.
They associated the mane color change to getting a new cutie mark, but we'll be seeing that's a decision Pipp made. And another recap of a Tell Your Tale episode, one that's a little bit longer because honestly, it is a very important episode. With Misty finally becoming part of the group, the six of them are now referred to as the Mane Six. It's a really simple read but honestly a great recap of Misty’s journey. From working with Opaline to becoming a core member of the group. She’s the Sixth Ranger Syndrome done the best. And I am looking forward to reading more about G5’s world when I’m done with the other G4 material.
My Little Pony, specifically Generation 4, was MASSIVELY popular. So popular there are two officially licensed Role Playing Games for it. And the first of these is the Tails of Equestria Series. This is the Core Book where most likely all the rules and such are. And who knows what kind of stuff is in these kinds of games when it comes to lore and Vs stuff. So let’s see what this is all about. While they keep calling it a Storytelling Game, this is your typical Tabletop Roleplaying Game. We got the GM which is called the Storyteller, PCs which are your Pony Characters and the likes. An example of a type of pony you could make goes as follows:
"I am going to be a Unicorn called Firebrand, who is red with an orange mane and tail. My cutie mark is a flame and my talent is controlling fires, so I can be a firefighter in Ponyville, but I will also be good at making the most beautiful fireworks!"
Firebrand, is this you? So far most of the books are the rules of the game. What you need, how things work and the like. If you know TTRPGs you know what to expect. But what’s different outside ponies? Well, instead of Character Alignment you got Element of Harmony. You also get to select a Talent for your character. They got a list but you can make up your own with help from the DM. Depending on the Pony Type you are, you get a possible second talent to add. If you already selected it, that talent gets stronger. You also get to pick from Quirks.
We get to learn more about each type and how they fit in Equestria. Simple stuff and shows you what that specific talent is like. But then there’s a section about Alicorns. How they’re not usually born as an alicorn (though they don’t mention Celestia and Luna) and highlight how Flurry Heart is the first known case of someone being born as such. So here’s something interesting:
Little is known about how this happens, except that it is very rare, and it only happens when Equestria is in need of a new princess. For example, Twilight Sparkle became an Alicorn when Equestria needed her powers of friendship more than ever!
So it was not because Twilight completed a spell, it was because Equestria needed her as a Princess. And no, your character can not be an Alicorn. So what does picking an Element of Harmony do? Nothing much. It's basically letting the DM and others know what kind of personality your Pony is aiming for. It's not necessary to follow it all the time, just enough to show that you're in that general area. You can even change your element anytime. Of course, you are most likely not to abuse this. If you know the show, you know what the Elements represent.
Traits are basically your basic stat sheet. And now we need to talk about Tokens of Friendship. They can be earned and used to try to get a different outcome on certain things. Basically a cost to re-roll. There's even a tier system to it as 1 can give you a re-roll, 2 gives you a re-roll with a D20 and 3 makes you automatically pass. You could also use these to change the story like "if I don't have enough money, I find the rest I need on the ground" kind of changes. And you guys can pool them together.
How do you earn these? You get a certain number per level up based on how many people are in the game. You also gain one by proving you are a true friend. And if you get a new player into the game, everyone can get a new token. We then talk about Tests and Challenges. Tests are your typical events you role in. Like perception checks, agility checks, you know. You can also set up the difficulty level so they can roll higher than a specific number they pass. But there's a bonus for rolling twice the difficulty, basically a Nat 20 without it being 20. Check out this part real quick...
If a question comes up concerning whether a pony is able to do something using hooves, it's best to simply not think very hard about it. Equestria depends far more on magic than science, after all!
In short... IT’S MAGIC, WE DON’T HAVE TO EXPLAIN SH... So what if the test is too hard for you, or as they call it impossible. You got a D8 Body and the Difficulty is 10, meaning you can't pass it no matter how high you roll. Besides other TTRPG ways, they got a solution for those who want to do it for themselves: the Exploding Hoof. Basically you roll your die, and if you roll max you roll the next highest and so on until you either not roll the max or roll a D20. Your highest roll of them all is what is used, so if you roll a 10 on the last one and a 2 on this one, your 10 is the one being used.
Challenges are basically like battles in a normal RPG, only instead of fighting its events like playing chess or racing each other. Even arguments can be used for Challenges. And for actual fights, they call it Scuffles. So what kind of Talents do they suggest? Here's some of my favorites: Pony Sense (Pinkie Sense as an ability) | The Stare (now you too can master this). Now what about Quirks? They're negative things that could be physical (Asthma being one of them) or mental (forgetful or messy). The rest are your basic stuff like name character, equipment and such. Leveling up stuff. Everything you need to know to play.
And we have our first Adventure in this game: The Pet Predicament. The Curse of the Statuettes is when you could be walking somewhere and then suddenly turn into a statue. It's only temporary, but it is a scary experience. Twilight and friends, including Spike, have to go to the Bad Lands to figure out what's the deal on this. But what about their pets? Spike isn't going to be able to Pet Sit again. And guess who they ask to help? That's right, Homer Simpson I mean you! This is an adventure for Level 1 players so even rookie DMs can take this one easy.
You were just hanging out with your friends, minding your business, when one of you happened to find a rabbit in your bag. It's Angel bunny and depending on how you act he can be a handful. Fluttershy sees this and thinks "you're perfect for the job." And whoever says yes first gets a Friendship Token, but what about if they say no? Fluttershy gets sad. If this somehow does not work, she tries bribing. And if that somehow doesn't work, you're gonna take care of them one way or another.
But we're gonna presume you said yes because this is Fluttershy asking you. You're going to the Edge of the Everfree forest the next morning to take care of all six of the pests. They were promised a Pampering Party and that's your first goal. You also got to keep Fluttershy's cottage nice and tidy. And with Angel being one of them, you are most likely going to fail at keeping him under control. He's basically going to be the boss of this adventure.
One thing leads to another and you lost the pets and suspect they're going to the Everfree Forest. So you're going into that forest to rescue the pets. If you refuse Fluttershy's offers (you monster), this is where you're going. You have to do various things to get them back. For example, you have to rescue Angel from an Ursa Minor. And if they take too long or do something unkind to get Angel, you'll be facing the Ursa Major as well. And despite rescuing him, Angel is still going to give you a hard time. I’ll let you discover what you have to do for the other pets on your own.
After all that and fixing things up, Spike shows up saying the others are in trouble. Sounds like a fun thing to experience. We get some details of the various things you will face in this particular story, some other things that aren’t really noteworthy and advertisements for addons. Honestly, this does look fun and I would have loved to try this. I’ll probably focus on the books that tell more Adventures than the resource stuff since I doubt they’ll add anything too noteworthy to review.
A Movie Tie-in book that isn’t focused on the Princesses.
We begin this story with the Storm King and his attempts to take over Equestria. The story teller wants you to remember that being Powerful, Mean and Scary are good things, because that's what everyone in the army is. The King is those things, his army are those things, Tempest Storm was DEFINITELY most like that... But one was not. And that's Grubber.
Being weak, nice and silly looking made him stand out, above the crowd when he really wants to be one in the herd, tripping over his words, trying hard to go with the grain, keeping his quirks in his brain. He tries but he just can't do it. Besides pointing and laughing, nobody paid attention to him until someone came: Tempest Storm. He thought because she was almost as small as him she would also be ignored. But as Buster Bunny said: never underestimate the little guys.
She was powerful, mean, scary, and beat up three Storm Guards to assert her dominance. And Grubber wanted to be just like her. Unlike IDW, it was Tempest who came to the Storm King for the deal: she can make him the most powerful creature in Equestria as long as he can restore her horn. The Storm King agrees. And thanks to Tempest leading the Storm Guards the Storm King grew even more powerful without Alicorn Magic. Grubber wanted to be her sidekick but she refused.
Grubber was persistent though, sneaking onto her ship, disguising himself, it got to the point that Tempest decided might as well. Grubber will come alone on the next mission. If he does well, Sidekick. If not, leave her alone forever. And the next mission is the MLP movie. As they headed to Equestria, Grubber was working on the speech he would say when they arrived. While his speech didn't leave them impressed, Tempest's appearance was more than enough to intimidate everyone there.
Tempest Soloed the Princesses and almost got Twilight but thanks to Muffins avoided that. Tempest ordered Grubber to get the last princess, but you've seen the movie by now to know what happened. Why didn't Grubber follow them if he wanted to prove himself? He couldn't swim. Then the rest of the movie happens from Grubber's perspective. He wanted to prove himself but every chance failed. And when the Storm King arrived, Tempest ignored him like everyone else did. So when he made the discovery about the Trojan Cake, he thought this was his last chance.
Let’s face it, this was a stomp against Grubber from the very beginning. So much so he was literally inconsequential in the movie. He got burned by Spike and bucked by Applejack and that was enough to get him to hide as we see the frikkin Royal Guard actually coming in to help. And just in time too as a Storm was forming and everyone was getting caught up in it. And by the time it was over, everything was back to normal and Grubber was out of a job.
Nobody was paying attention to him as the Ponies celebrated as the Storm Guards ran away. Tempest was nowhere to be seen, but Grubber knew he failed. So he packed up whatever he could so he could find a new place. But before he could, Tempest walked up to him. Grubber thought he failed her, but then she tells him that what she was doing was pretty evil. So while he wasn’t Powerful, Mean or Scary, he was generous, loyal, and made everyone laugh. And she invites him along to her next mission not as a sidekick, but as a friend.
And that next mission is to spread the message of Storm King's defeat and that Friendship is the most powerful magic. They would go on to amazing adventures that we will sadly never see because the IDW comics decided to do their own thing, but honestly I would have loved it if Grubber was along with Tempest like Spike is to Twilight. Makes me sad I made Grubber a Mayor of the Storm Guards instead of coming along with Tempest. A short read, but I recommend it.
It's a typical day for Sunny until she slips on a banana. Because of how sudden it was, people found it hilarious. And it was captured on the Internet so she is blowing up. It's so popular, there’s a song to go with it. Sunny doesn’t like this because she’s supposed to be the Alicorn of Unity. In a sense she is uniting ponies: by all of them laughing at her. Sunny is taking this so bad, she refuses to go outside. So who could help her in this situation?
Not Hitch, because he was also embarrassed by failing to catch a baby Raccoonicorn. Luckily Pipp understands this better than anyone, as she has a compilation video of her fails that has 13 billion views. Her advice, own it. If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. And when life gives you bananas? Make a smoothie. This gives Pipp the idea to promote a new smoothie for Sunny made of bananas. This made her even more successful and made her feel better about it. Followed by another for the Fail Video.
It shows the ups and downs of being a Viral Sensation. You get notoriety in both positives (having fans) and negatives (they’re all gonna laugh at you). Luckily for Sunny she didn’t sign a contract for them to use her likeness against her wishes.
Zipp’s Yes Day
The Gang is having a Smoothie Drinking Contest that Pipp is winning. But when they tried to invite Zipp, she refused. She was working on a Pony dive at the time. They tried again when they were just singing along. And again at the beach when they were being buried in sand. They’ve been noticing Zipp has been saying no to a lot of things, so they figured they could get Zipp into doing an Online Challenge: Yes Day. You have to say yes to anything for an entire day.
Zipp, being related to Pipp, is always up for a challenge and agrees to the Challenge. And it is thanks to that she gets to try all sorts of things. While there are some things she was having second thoughts on, she has been enjoying herself. When the day ended, Zipp enjoyed herself and swore to join in more often. It ends with her joining that singing session they had earlier.
While it is alright to refuse doing things, you gotta try them at least once. You may miss out on some fun you never would have experienced if you just didn’t do it. Just be careful of what you say yes too.
When you want to revisit the show but have no access to the episodes.
There are a bunch of books that are basically the episode being retold in book form. And I really doubt most of these are any different from the episode except I have to read them. So let’s take out a bunch of them today. Not including the Movie Related Books and Equestria Girls Books, I’m probably going to do that separately.
The Big Book of Equestria
The first chapter is basically a retelling of the first two episodes of Friendship is Magic. Well, mostly the second episode. We only get a retelling of the origin of Nightmare Moon. Then Nightmare Moon shows up. Some differences include Celestia being considered the Queen of Equestria despite being still called Princess, Applejack pulling Twilight up instead of letting her fall and Spitfire asking Dash to join the Wonderbolts (despite her looking like a Shadowbolt).
Sonic Rainboom is the next one. Differences here is an explanation about how a Sonic Rainboom is made. Specifically if a Pegasus Flies fast enough, a Sonic Boom and a Rainbow could happen at the same time, creating a Sonic Rainboom. So if a Pegasus flies at certain speeds, they could make one or the other. Another thing is Rainbow Dash is worrying about her ordinary wings to Rarity’s fancy ones.
Boast Busters is next. I’ll probably say it now so I won’t forget, but when not using screenshots they use vectors. And man, they are some weird looking ones. If you get this book, that’s probably where you’ll get your money’s worth. Nothing too different. Then Swarm of the Century. Only real difference is Pinkie wasn’t the cause of the Tornado failing.
And finally the Best Night Ever. Except it wasn’t that episode. It begins with the Ticket Master. Followed by Suited For Success, only its Rarity made their dresses and they took them. And THEN Best Night Ever. Nothing too different. Basically the Big Book of Equestria is a summary of numerous episodes. You get lots of screenshots, a short bio of certain characters and unique vectors I don’t think show up anywhere else. Give it a shot if you want.
Crystal Heart Kisses
A retelling of The Crystalling and ONLY The Crystalling. Basically, it's without the B-Plot of Starlight and Sunburst despite them being part of the conclusion. Man, reading this makes you understand why Starlight was added. Not as fun without those two trying to save face.
Crystalling Chaos
Yet another retelling of the Crystalling. This one seems more meaty as it does include the B-Plot. There’s also bubbles asking questions. Ones with no answer (favorite subject in class) and ones with (Who are Twilights 5 best friends). It's a much more straightforward recap. Nothing too different.
Magical Sound Book
The Big Gimmick with this is some pages have audio, so you can hear a magical noise when you press the button. Since I’m reading via PDF, I don’t have that. It's basically Boast Busters again. Except in this one Trixie was MUCH more antagonistic. Nobody was making a fuss in the crowd and Dash volunteered for a trick. Basically Trixie is attacking the ponies with her magic. There’s also elements of Magic Duel as she puts Spike in a ball and merges Snips and Snails.
So not having an issue of worrying about people thinking she’s showing off, Twilight actually steps up to take on Trixie. So how does Twilight defeat this even more powerful but meaner Trixie? She uses the moustache spell. And it works because it showed Trixie what it is like to be laughed at. So Trixie apologizes and hugs it out. For you Vs Debaters, this is a book for you to help boost up Trixie’s Magical Abilities. And for those not into that, honestly it's a funny look at that episode.
Power Ponies to the Rescue
The Power Ponies episode, in book form. It’s a level 1 book, so don’t expect too much difficulty. And be sure to look for the word comic, lightning, costumes, and for some reason Mailbox. Yeah, nothing too much different.
A Canterlot Wedding
A Screenshot comic of A Canterlot Wedding. It's basically the episode as a graphic novel. No music so if you don’t like that you got this.
Pageants and Ponies
This is like the last one, but it's with the episodes "Family Appreciation Day" and "Hearth's Warming Eve". Same deal as the one above.
The Return of Harmony and When Cutie Calls
Two more of those Episodes turned into Graphic Novel books. The first one is, of course, the Return of Harmony two parter. The other is Call of the Cutie and the Cutie Mark Chronicles. One I don’t have is called the Magic Begins but I suspect it is a retelling of the first episode of the series.
And that’s it for those Books about retelling old stories. From here on out, they’ll be new stories to tell. Even the Movie and Equestria Girls related ones will be different. But overall, nothing too much to really be important to read. Just one book for the Vectors and another for a different Trixie episode.
We’re back to IDW and their most recent trip to Generation 4.
The Rise of Cadance is a One Shot Comic showing the origins of Cadance. This is something we learned in the story “Twilight and the Crystal Heart Spell”. With their new focus on focusing on specials and not on-going stories, we’ll probably see more of these until the next Generation comes. So let’s see how IDW adapted this short story within a short story and see how they either adapted great, or mess up not only its continuity but their own.
We begin with Cadance looking over her kingdom reminiscing of her past. Like Twilight, she wonders if she did earn the title of Alicorn and she remembers what she gained and lost to achieve the title. When she was a baby, she was found all alone by Earth Ponies. The implication she was left behind because she would be found and hopefully be given a better home. So why is she named Cadance? It's because She dances in the air like a cadenza in a song. Thus Mi Amore Cadenza.
She was the only Pegasus in a village of Earth Ponies but instead of the Naruto treatment everyone admired and loved her. But then one day, it seemed like all the love was sucked out of the village. A Sorceress called Prisma is here and apparently sensed the growing love Cadance brought to the village. She can't stand it, so she found a way to drain the love the ponies have. The mother figure, who I don’t know, thinks the best way to save Cadance is to leave the village.
Too bad Prisma showed up and sucked the love of the mother figure (who got named dropped as Alloro Legarra). Prisma tried to do it to Cadance, but apparently she has so much love it defeated her magic amulet. In the book, it was explained that the Amulet that enhanced Prisma’s Negative Emotions also enhanced Cadance’s positive ones. In the comic, Celestia shows up after this and doesn't know how Cadance did it. And Cadance, being the love Pony, refused to see Prisma go to Tartarus.
She apparently senses that Prisma was shunned long ago and only took love because she was afraid to express it. The necklace Cadance wears now was that same amulet Prisma wore. Prisma gave it to Cadance for saving her from Tartarus. And then she gets her cutie mark. Seeing a Crystal Heart, Celestia decided to take Cadance with her to Canterlot. Cadance didn’t want to leave, but she knew Celestia had to have a reason for such. Plus, her mother figure did suggest this is going to be good for her.
In Canterlot, she wondered why she was in Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns since she was a Pegasus. While the school didn’t bully her or anything, they were probably wondering the same thing. She also trained with the Pegasus Royal Guard, who taught her how to be a better flyer than she was at her old village. We also learn she did like to babysit kids, as Celestia allowed her to take care of younger students while helping pick out the next great talent for the future.
While Cadance wonders why she’s the only student living in the palace, we see Celestia taking her into more Royal affairs. Also a Shining Armor appearance. Cadance still continued to do this until one day, the Dragons attacked. She tried, but she was young and they were multiple and fully grown. Celestia shows up and tells her to take care of the kids, but one dragon follows them. It was the leader of this group and she was angry, but Cadance has something nobody has developed yet: Empathy.
She sensed the pain behind the anger and deduced long ago, something bad happened to some younglings and she built an army for revenge. But Cadance tells her that revenge won’t change the past or fix her feelings. She does apologize for the ponies of the past and convinces her to leave the young ponies alone. The Dragon agrees just as Celestia shows up to fight. And this is what led to Cadance turning into an Alicorn.
Apparently when Celestia saw the cutie mark, she recognized Cadance as a descendant of the first Princess of the Crystal Empire: Princess “I know what is happening but I’m an idiot so I let it keep happening and expect the guy who knows nothing but pain to join my side” Amore. Her parents knew of this fate and hoped the village of Earth Ponies would save her from this fate, but nope. Now as an Alicorn, she can’t take care of the fillies anymore but now Celestia introduces her to Twilight. And that’s where it ends.
No modern Cadance to follow up thinking about her past. No revisiting her old Adopted Parents. Just her meeting Twilight and creating the chant we all know and love (unless you have to do it in front of people). I will say there are some good things about it. More names so we can put a name to Cadance’s caregiver. The Artwork is always great. And for an adaption it does expand more and include more things. But then you realize this is from IDW and their issues pop up.
The implication that Cadance is a descendant of the Crystal Empire Princess has always been implied, but to make her be one to the poor leader that was Amore definitely watered down that experience for me. The fact that instead of seeing Cadance struggle to be an Alicorn, she was basically trained to be one before she was one definitely limited the potential for storytelling. Thank goodness Celestia saw this coming because of the Cutie Mark and not that fake “I can see the future” powers people think she has.
But the big thing that sucks for me is the lack of continuity. The necklace Prisma had was not the necklace Cadance wears today. She gave that necklace to Twilight which caused issues there. And while you say that could be a retcon, we also see IDW’s own take on how Shining met Cadance be ruined because it was Shining Armor taking advantage of a babysitting gig to have Cadance meet Twilight. But what’s the point of him having a difficult time asking her out when she was most likely babysitting Twilight more often.
So to do something I haven’t done in a long time, how would this fit in GLAB’s Canon. Definitely going to have Cadance become an alicorn after defeating Prisma. To show her struggles with being an Alicorn when you have such high expectations placed upon you. So when the Dragons attack, that’s when Celestia decides to give Cadance the title of the Princess of Love. Cut back to the present to have Cadance remember all that and then flying to that Earth Pony village to see her friends and family there once more.
This series took “Applejack is a Background Pony” as an offense.
How Applejack Got Her Hat Back
This episode begins with Rarity setting a new trend: Cowboy hats. Applejack is excited at first, but as more ponies get into this trend Applejack feels like she’s not herself. If everyone is a cowpony, what is she? So the first half of the episode is focusing on her trying to find a new identity, via potions. After being a pilot, a Firemare, and an Astronaut, she decided that she needs something that says “I don’t know who I am.” She goes with being French, complete with beret.
Part 2 begins with Applejack sulking when she sees three other ponies who are not into trends. They ask Applejack to join them since she’s fitting their vibes and she accepts. She even got their current obsession: a cube that does something. What it is they don’t know. Rarity sees this and worries about Applejack. So wanting to fix her situation, Rarity takes that cube and makes it the next trend. All the while Applejack decided the heck with what other ponies wear: she’s a cowpony and she’s wearing that hat Trend or not.
It ends with everything back to normal and Pinkie Pie figuring out what the cube is: something you can eat. Overall, this is my favorite of the series so far as honestly, if you change the scripting and stretch things out this could totally have been an actual episode of Friendship is Magic. And I honestly love the joke of Twilight and Applejack trying to figure out what that cube does.
Cute-pocalypse Meow
Everyone is trying to put on their game faces. This includes Fluttershy who, let's face it, could be stabbing you in the face and you will still find her cute. Going to the park to make up conversations people are having (I think Family Guy did something similar), she meets a cat: Bubbles Cherub McSquee. Animals can talk in this universe. Fluttershy seems obsessed with her new friend, but the others are worried about that. When they get to meet him, his jerky nature is revealed but Fluttershy seems to ignore it because “it's funny.” Plus Friendship Jewelry.
Though it seems the dam finally breaks when he says Reality TV is Trash. Technically he’s correct, but Pinkie Pie is currently in a Reality TV Show so they take offense to that. After all, Pinkie is working hard to win and his comments made her bum out. Even Fluttershy is upset with Bubbles. After he leaves, Fluttershy is confronted with the truth about Bubbles and decides to confront Bubbles. He’s already replaced her with Buttershy, a Fluttershy recolor who is more focused on her tablet than actually caring about Bubbles.
So they battle in a cute-off. Sure, he’s a cat but this is Fluttershy we’re talking about. She sends him flying off again and Fluttershy is back with her friends. Buttershy doesn’t really seem to notice anything. Overall, it’s alright but it reminds me of Dishwater Slog two episodes ago: very hard to watch because the jerk brings it down. It's slightly better as said jerk gets their comeuppance. Though Applejack’s Hat is still the best episode to me.
We meet the three new creatures that Grackle and Dyre made: Violet Shiver, Black Belle and Shadow Storm. They have successfully tricked the ponies into thinking that they are from Hayvard. But the two daughters don’t think their S'monies are doing enough. Mostly because they only told them to “make things weird”. So they told them things to teach the students which are not friendly. Thing is, the students really like it.
But Rarity is the first to notice those lessons sound mean and tells Starlight her worries. Starlight didn’t think it was the case but overheard a lesson just in case. Starlight does worry as the “summon scary objects and scare your roommates” is mean but Black Belle basically Gaslights Starlight to second guess herself. And despite this, the daughters think the S'monies should do more. So after school, they do like messing with the Wonderbolts, a restaurant vs a bowling alley, and messing with the harvest.
But the gaslighting is over as Starlight is seeing Black Belle’s lessons being more mean than she originally thought while the rest of Ponyville is getting more frustrated. And despite all that, the daughters STILL don’t think the S'monies are doing enough. Considering they don’t even oversee their creations, it is no wonder. And that’s where the issue ends with the S'monies promising to get worse.
Again, for a crossover with Generation 1, there is not a lot of Generation 1. Like imagine a crossover event where you don’t see elements of who they’re crossing over with for two episodes. Or a crossover episode where you’re almost half way and you still haven’t seen any crossover. But how is this story without those elements?
Well, Grackle and Dyre don’t really interest me. They’re still in the Volcano complaining and not doing anything themselves. The S'monies I think look interesting but so far they are interchangeable. Like when Black Belle slipped up, Shadow Storm covered for her. And then Shadow Storm slipped up where Violet Shiver covers for him. But with the students liking them despite the scary lessons, it does set up the ending.
Another thing I notice is the coloring mistakes. Twice I noticed Starlight Glimmer’s hair having different coloring than normal. Is this why they never added her into IDW comics before? Now Issue 3 is next and we’ll finally get some actual G1 Representation... For one panel.
