Listening to Sweater Weather while scrolling through my Allurance tag :3
I ❤️ when she grabs him
Not to lion symbolism post again but like reading into when Allura is trying to act like Lance to connect with the Blue Lion
Allura's first instinct in trying to win over Blue is to flirt with her. This does absolutely nothing. BUT!! When she's willing to be vulnerable, letting go of control and asking for help, THAT'S when she connects with Blue. It feels like a good mirror to allurance to me
Thinking once again about how Lance's feelings not just for but about Allura shape his character development so much.
It would've been really easy for him to fall into changing/wanting to be better to win Allura's affections but they clearly spell out that isn't the case. When he thinks he has no chance with her and resolves to keep his feelings to himself he says that she makes him want to be a better person. He sees who she is and is inspired by that. He genuinely adores WHO SHE IS and what she does.
And that sincerity and genuine appreciation for her did result in her returning his feelings but that was never a goal for him. It happened because she saw him grow as a person and they formed a more genuine connection.
He becomes a better paladin (and person) because of her, and it stems from admiring her so much. They have such a genuine appreciation for each other that I just really appreciate
Notice how Allura canonically likes sparkly things and Lance goes sparkle sparkle. The cuties of all time
Giving Lance the line "I need you. I can't imagine this world without you." to Allura a few episodes before she KILLS HERSELF TO SAVE THE UNIVERSE was downright evil and the Voltron writers need to pay
The Date
“Aw yeah! We’re going on a date.”
“We are?”
Lance startles from his spot on the couch, a familiar presence now looming over his shoulder as Allura peers down at him, eyebrow arched like a cat mid-stretch. Some of the strays his family would take in did it all the time when greeting him, their way of a friendly hello to who was naturally their favourite human. Lance wonders if it means the same in eyebrow for all the times he’s seen that exact expression on her.
Then again, probably not.
“Oh, hey Allura. No—I mean, we can be. I’m all for it. I’m just talking about this game I’m playing.”
Lance holds up the Switch in his hands—a fairly retro console in this day and age. But like Pidge, he holds a soft spot for retro. He’d been given it as a birthday gift on his tenth birthday, a hand me down from his brother Marco who’d already bought it second hand. And to baby him? It was the coolest thing ever. Aside from sharks and rocket ships, of course.
Lance had been reunited with it again when he and Allura had visited his parents for the weekend, waiting in a cardboard box of nostalgia, from the Switch, to his old shark plush Gnasher, and the star themed lights that he had once stared up at every night. Turned out they had been salvaged when his family had returned to what was left of their old pre-invasion home, scraping together a few in-tact belongings here and there.
He’d honestly thought he’d never see any of those items again.
He may have even teared up a little.
But it wasn’t until Lance got back to his home with Allura on New Altea that he ended up booting up his games console. It was just out of pure curiosity, honestly. He wanted to see what he had installed, what he’d been into back then.
Turned out, Tomodachi Life was one of those things. Vague memories had floated back of making his family, and that one girl he’d had a crush on at the time, only to delete her in his shame the second she’d rejected him. He’d added a few celebrities too, and his best attempt at Sonic the Hedgehog just so his Mii could have A-list roommates, though for some reason he could never get their interests to match up.
His island was just as he’d left it, like it had been caught in a time capsule. And yet, according to his Miis ages, time had marched ever onwards. The age of his own Mii had initially caught him off guard, another reminder that he’s three years younger than he should be, that three years had been taken from them by Lotor in that fight, that no longer did he match up to the age of his own twin sister.
Seeing he’d already added Shiro was a surprise, though. An embarrassing one. Looked like he’d been one of the last ones he’d added, back when he’d realised the garrison would be where he’d chase after his dreams. The kid who’d added him had looked up at him with starry eyes, a hero.
And here he was, having met the guy, having fought with the guy.
Funny where life takes you.
Lance had spent a few minutes editing Mii Shiro, trying to make him closer to the one he knows. The grandpa haired Shiro he knows.
Somehow, that had ended up with him making his whole team. Or at least, his best attempt at them.
Look. He’s not an artist, okay? But he tried. Allura’s beauty’s really hard to replicate, he’ll have you know.
But Lance thinks he’s done a decent enough job.
From there, he’d got them to interact. Hunk had tried and succeeded in moving in with him! And, true to real life, Mii Lance had fallen head over heels for Mii Allura near instantly. Though, perhaps not so true to real life, Allura had soon followed suit, equally smitten.
Even less true to life, they had got their act together quickly, no pining around the bush, something Lance can’t help but be a little envious of, those brave, no-nonsense pixels.
And now they’re going on a date.
Real life Allura frowns at the screen.
“Is this one of those ‘dating sims’ Pidge was talking about?”
“Oh, no,” says Lance, though he can see why she’d think that. There are a lot of hearts on screen right now. “It’s called Tomodachi Life. You design a bunch of people to live on an island and go about their business. Usually players recreate people they know, like I’ve done here. This uh… well, she’s actually meant to be you.”
“Hm,” she says, looking at the white haired girl on screen. “I do see the resemblance. So, in this game, are you taking her on a date?”
“More like you’re taking me on a date.” Another deviation from reality. Allura had been too preoccupied with work to focus on herself. Her Mii self? Not so much. “Allura here’s trying to confess.”
“Oh? And how is that going for her?”
“That’s what I’m gonna find out,” says Lance, flicking through the location options as he decides where they’ll have their date. At home? No. A restaurant? “Probably fine. Mii me’s already in love with you. He’d be dumb to say no.”
As the next question comes up, Lance decides that he may as well make the most of his audience. No one knows Allura like Allura.
“How would you ask me out?” he asks.
Allura ponders her options for a moment. “Romantically,” she decides. “Let’s see if she can outdo your heartfelt confession.”
His heart warms. “Aww, ‘Lura,” he says as he goes with her suggestion.
They each watch the scene that plays out with bated breath.
Mii Allura enters the restaurant, Mii Lance already waiting at the table.
“Are you wearing a… shark is it? A shark costume?”
“Oh quiznack,” Lance grumbles. “I never should have made him a fashionista. He can’t choose his outfits right. Not on a date, man.”
Mii Allura, however, pays no mind to the ridiculousness of his attire. A spotlight appears over her head, and she opens her arms wide.
“Lonce,” says the Mii, “when we met on this island… I felt like we were meant to be together! Like chips and ketchup! Like crumble and custard!”
“That is certainly… a unique confession,” says her real life counterpart.
Lance shrugs. “That’s just how the game is. He’ll probably think it’s the most romantic thing ever. You have this in the bag.”
He can almost hear the record scratch.
“The one who really loves Lance is me!” pipes up their date crasher, a guy who Lance had only barely taken note of sitting there earlier. Mii Keith.
Of all the people!
Allura lets out a small gasp, clearly enraptured by all the drama. Lance would probably think it’s cute, but what happens next leaves him a little distracted.
“He chose who?!”
In a complete one eighty of events, Mii Lance had decided, completely on a whim, that he wanted to go out with Mii Keith. Keith.
What’s worse? Allura looks like she’s trying not to laugh. It’s that princessy expression of hers, often brought out in matters of diplomacy, the one where she holds her hand over her face in dignified amusement.
A double betrayal.
“You really shouldn’t disappoint the happy new couple,” says Allura as Lance stares at the screen blankly. “They’re clearly happy and in love. You should give them your blessing.”
“You can’t be serious! What about… what about you?”
“I suppose I will just have to move on. You’re clearly spoken for.”
“Urgh, I hate this game,” bemoans Lance, putting the Switch down and burying his head in his hands. “Why Keith? Whhhhyyyy?”
Sure, he’s on good terms with the real guy. Friends. Good friends. But dating him?
Lance is kind of regretting ever adding his Mii to his island.
Allura gives him a reassuring pat on the back.
“Well, he is good looking.”
“Oh my god.”
“And you wouldn’t make a bad couple.”
Lance pulls his head from his hands just to give her a withering stare. “Betrayed. By my own girlfriend.”
“Oh, you’ll persevere.”
“No, no. You’re going to have to make it up to me. And I’m gonna have to make up for my Mii’s poor taste. We’re doing this, for real. We’re going on a date.”
Allura’s teasing smile softens. “A restaurant date?”
“No restaurants, no Keith. Just a nice romantic evening in, the two of us.”
Allura’s eyes sparkle. “Sounds perfect. My other self really is missing out.”
