Brave Little Knight 🗡️🛡️

Who says dragons are scary? Well, not this brave little girl. Even seasoned knights run at the mere mention of the dragon’s name, but she doesn’t fear a face-to-face encounter with the beast. 🐉

For this photo, I used the in-camera focus shift shooting feature to keep both the knight and the dragon in focus while maintaining a softly blurred background. Since I used a pico LED to light up the fire in the dragon’s mouth, I had to shoot two separate series of images. 🔥

In Photoshop, I blended the first 10 shots (where the wire is visible) into a single image, and then did the same with the other 10 (without the pico LED). I combined those two final images to create one where the dragon’s mouth is lit, but no wire is visible.

One small tip—don’t be like me. Always dust off your sets before shooting. I spent nearly an hour removing dust from the dragon’s head. 😅 I liked the colors straight out of camera, so I didn’t do any additional color editing.

The History of LEGO Elves

Welcome to a brand new year! I've decided to run a series of posts about the history of LEGO Elves, as a tribute to both my own enjoyment of LEGO Elves and my hopes for the future :) These posts are going to focus on the LEGO Elves theme, which released in March 2015 and ran through December 2018. The theme included an animated cartoon series and both the sets in the theme and the cartoon series followed the adventures of teenage Emily Jones as she finds her grandmother's magic amulet which transports her into the magical realm of Elvendale, home of the Elves. There, she befriends four Elves, each with an elemental magic affiliation, including fire, water, earth, and air. The first season of the show and the first wave of LEGO sets focus on Emily's journey into the magic realm and her search for a way home, which involves finding elemental keys to unlock a portal in the mysterious sky castle and I will talk more about the storyline as my posts progress :) The entire series included six foil bags from magazine purchases, two polybags, and 33 sets, and the sets feature minidolls instead of minifigures, as well as colorful dragons creatures!
