lets make a coffin for ambulon
It was Pharma who had called First Aid just as the nurse was getting off of an overnight shift.
"We don't need you to come, First Aid, because we've already identified the body," he'd said, and First Aid's spark had squeezed painfully at the tremor behind Pharma's careful, professional tone, "but I thought you should know..."
The irony of it all was that there were Autobots with more warcrimes under their belts than most Decepticons. That everyone was, for the most part, equally guilty in their participation. That Pharma was a surgeon at New Iacon's medical facility, while Ambulon had barely managed to find work at the clinics in what little of Kaon had been rebuilt.
And now -- because of the purple and blue that still showed under Autobot orange and gold -- Ambulon had been found in an alley of New Iacon, presumably jumped by a small gang of Autobots on his way back from Kaon to the flat he shared with First Aid.
Pharma was there when First Aid arrived, letting him in through the back door and tentatively promising a half-hour of privacy before leaving him alone.
First Aid stumbled over to where Ambulon was laid out. Someone had cleaned him up a bit, no doubt after collecting evidence in the hope of identifying his attackers; even so, the crushed chestplating left very little to the imagination.
It was so unfair. It was so wrong. First Aid rested his helm against Ambulon's and let himself cry. Ambulon, who was so good and kind and bright-sparked, and who had been such an unexpected blessing to everyone he met...
First Aid cried until he finally couldn't any more; he pulled a chair from a corner and sat next to the medical slab. He hadn't known anything could hurt so much. And there was so much of it -- he wasn't sure if it would ever stop.
The War is supposed to be over.
First Aid let the words loop mindlessly through his processor as he gripped Ambulon's servo, already cold and not-Autobot-not-Decepticon-just-Nothing-grey from a night in an alley and three hours in the morgue.
This is not how they had imagined a renewed Cybertron at all.
