I was tagged by @thechalkgod for an... obscure, but interesting OC tag game!
I was to go to Black Phoenix’s Alchemy Lab and find perfumes that remind me of my OCs, then tag some other folk. I gave it a go!*
Alexander is King Cake, because he’s so sweet: A sweet brioche cake with a hint of almond, glazed with cream cheese frosting and gleaming with purple, green, and gold sugar.
Robin is Lawful, because of course he would be: Rigid oak, blue chamomile, rhubarb, and fig leaf.
Ismene is Mouse Circus, because I bet those are having fun: A toodle oodle of pink cotton candy noses, vanilla spun sugar fur, scattered kernels of popcorn, and a touch of polished golden wood.
Leiah is Dragon’s Eye - Ressurected, because if nothing else, it sounds badass: A piercing, radiant perfume: dragon's blood resin, lily of the valley, lilac and galbanum.
*TIL I can’t imagine scents at all.
I’m gonna tag... @kiaradimari, @kaylewiswrites, @heywriters, and anyone else who I don’t know they have a WIP yet and would like to give it a go!
AAAAA I COULDN’T PUT IT IN THE QUEUE, CAUSE I WOULD HAVE TO MAKE YOU GUYS WAIT EVEN LONGER TO SEE THIS!
The “super extra special thing” I’ve been promising for a week now is here!
Behold! Team Ariel! From left to right: Leiah Prima, Alexander Glorian, Ismene Kokinos, and Robin Heath!
To be honest, when I first started working on the lineart from the sketch a week ago, I gave up for several days. I thought it was coming out that horrible. Then I picked it up again a few days ago and have been working on it ever since. This is probably the biggest drawing project I’ve taken on and actually finished it.
As you may or may not have noticed, I am almost a complete newbie at drawing. While comments and critique are greatly appreciated, please keep that fact in mind. ⊂( ・ ̫・)⊃
P.S.: If you have no idea who these 4 are, then maybe you haven’t read this.
Oh this one’s hillarious. I was tagged by @raevenlywrites and given 3 ingredients. I then have to figure out what my characters would make with those ingredients, then pick my own 3-10 ingredients, and tag some other people.
My ingredients are: Chocolate, Spices (my pick), and Dairy. Let’s get to it!
Alexander: Chocolate syrup (or melted chocolate), cinammon, and greek yoghurt, mix, and cool for a sweet summer treat.
Robin: Plain ice cream (the frozen cream kind), with lemongrass and hot chocolate drizzled over it.
Ismene: A cup of hot chocolate with cream and a little bit of vanilla.
Leiah: Melted chocolate mixed with curd, frozen, served with a sprinkle of salt. Completelly randomly thrown together on a whim, found out it’s delicious, eats it in front of everyone to freak them out.
(Okay to be honest that last one actually sounds delicious.)
Oh, what’s this? Jo wants in on this too? She wants... chocolate milk with mint? Alright, surprisingly sounds delicious. Thanks for your contribution, Jo.
My turn to tag people! My list of ingredients is: Leek, carrot, egg, chicken. Spices of choice. @kaylewiswrites, @griffinwriting, @thechalkgodwrites, @rhikasa, get your aprons on!
In the RWBY universe, huntsmen and huntresses sometimes form teams of 4. They may decide to follow individual careers after graduating their respective huntsman schools. The team names are made up of initials of the 4 team members’ names (sometimes, but rarely, last names). Examples from the show are Team RWBY (pronounced Ruby), and Team JNPR (pronounced Juniper).
So, without further ado, let me introduce Team ARIL (pronounced Ariel).
Alexander Glorian:
First letter in the team name, meaning he’s the leader.
He thinks on his feet, and is a good tactician. Sadly, he isn’t very observant of his surroundings, much less so in the heat of battle.
His most noticable features are his big nose, his dark hair, combed from the face, droopy eyes, and the fact that he’s big and heavy.
As for his apparel, the one thing that never changes is his armor - individual pieces like a chestplate, gauntlets and grieves, which can be transformed into an almost full set of armor, including a helmet.
His weapon is a mace flail, which can erupt into Dust-powered elemental explosions.
His Semblance is Impact, which expands his Aura into a sponge-like shock absorbant force field. This is most important for avoiding any damage caused by hits into his armor, but can also be expanded further to break his fall or prevent hits altogether.
Robin Heath:
He’s the team ranger, the one who stays back and observes the battlefield from a distance. This is useful for informing Alexander on any changes in the battle he may not be aware of.
His brown hair has a slightly blonde shine to it, and his eyes are those of a hunter.
Being a hunter before deciding to become a huntsman, he is still used to traditional hunter’s clothes - muted greens and browns that help him fade into a forest background better. The green and brown are predominant even in his everyday wear.
His weapon is a specially designed longbow. The heads of his arrows are loaded with Dust, which can be detonated upon impact or by a remote detonation located on his bow.
His Semblance is Calm Wind. As it’s name implies, this lets him calm any wind that might be present that could either give away his position to an animal or affect the flight path of his arrows.
Ismene Kokinos:
Compensating for her nervousness against real life Grimm, she studies them thoroughly, providing sometimes crucial information to her team about their opponent, while staying back beside Robin, protecting him if anything comes too close to him.
Her dark red hair reaches to her waist, and is usually weaved into a braid. Her eyes are usually wide open and attentive.
Her wardrobe mostly consists of skirts and dresses of red and black variety. When told that there is no such thing as a “battle skirt”, she responds that she is so small, a Grimm would eat her in one bite anyways, so any armor would just give it indigestion.
Her weapon is Irene, a dark red halberd. With a press of a trigger on the handle, the small rocket propels the halberd into a faster, stronger swing than Ismene alone could manage.
Her Semblance is still unknown.
Leiah Prima:
The protagonist of Grimm Tales.
She tries to be a well rounded, adaptive fighter. She can fight in a team or alone, armed, or unarmed. Her quick thinking and improvisation give her an upper hand, sometimes surprising her opponent, but sometimes her quick, impulsive fighting does not fit into a bigger battle strategy, so she tries her best to follow Alexander’s instructions.
Her dark, almost black hair is always messy, and she doesn’t really care either way. Half of her face is covered with a cross stripped black and white triangular scarf, a memento from back home.
She does not like her stature or the shape of her body, so she covers it with layers upon layers of clothing with little to no defined style. She even goes as far as wearing knee-high socks year-round, though she swaps her gloves for thinner bandages or strips of cloth in the summer wrapped around her hands and fingers.
Her weapon is a dagger, the blade shapped like a hooked arrowhead. The hilt contains a long, thin chain, and a mechanism that propels the blade forward violently, then drags it back into the hilt.
Her Semblance is still unknown.
And here is the main group of characters in Grimm Tales! I hope you like them at least half as much as I do.
Over the next few days, there will be similar posts like this for the other 6-7 OCs of mine; another group of 4, named Team Lasso (introduced in Chapter 20), followed by the other 2-3 OCs: Mariamne Igraine (introduced in Chapter 4), and Nicholai “Kostya” (intriduced in Chapter 21).
There is one other very unusual OC, though. So unusual, that I’m not sure whether or not to include him in the miscellaneous introductions post... He appears in Chapters 12 and 16, for anyone curious enough to read about him.
Golly, I’ve been teagged by @heywriters (their contribution can be found here)!
Go to page or paragraph 7 of your WIP, go to Line 7, and post 7 lines. Then tag 7 other writers!
Just as they feared, there were two huge Grimm roaming the outskirts of the village.
(Part 5)
“One’s bigger than he other,” Robin noticed.
All heads turned to Mariamne for any kind of feedback, but she simply shrugged: “This is your assigned, so I have no intention of meddling, unless necessary.”
“Right, then,” Alexander drew their attention. “I’ll take the big one while Leiah distracts the smaller one. Robin, you wait for a clear fatal shot. Ismene, stay with Robin, just in case. Understood?”
“Yeah!” the team replied.
“Then let’s go!” Alexander yeller and they all rushed towards the enemy.
Alexander was the first to reach his target and immediately started swinging at it with his flail, loosing one explosion after the other. The smaller Ursa was about to some to its companion’s rescue, when Leiah intercepted it and grabbed its attention with a few slices at its hide. Robin and Ismene stopped a few paces away, the archer readying his weapon for a good moment to shoot. A slight wind that was noticeable before was not gone as he aimed.
(I didn’t count the chapter title.)
Umm, I tag... @kaylewiswrites @shipthedame @elliewritesstories @pixel-letters @word-nerds-united @dabiyyahwrites ... Ok I ran out of people who I know are writers, so I hope I won’t get bad juju for only tagging you 6 ^^’‘
Ok so I found some old OC questions I found in a notebook, but I sadly don't have source who I got these from (it was definitelly from Tumblr). If I remember, I'll definitelly edit in who put these in! I'll also skip the ones that are more like notes, because some of them contain plot spoilers! Some of these are also pretty obscure, but I found them fun at the time, so oh well.
Me, after writing this all down: Yeah, this got super long, so I’m putting it under a Read More link. Sorry!
Q: What does your character's name mean? Did you pick it for the symbolism, or did you just like the way it sounded?
A: In most cases, it's the symbolism. It's a fun easter egg for the readers and also a shortcut for my internal knowledge of the character (I'm basically cheating).
Updated A: This answer isn't true for Team Lasso, introduced in Chapter 21. I just pictured the characters in my head as I wrote the scene, and then I gave them names I thought would fit their description. I only later looked up the meaning behind their names. I only changed one of their names after I remembered the initials have to roughly spell something, whoops!
Q: What is one of your character's biggest insecurities? Are they able to hide it well, or can others easily exploit this weakness?
A: Robin is really insecure about his skills to become a huntsman, because he has virtually no combat experience like for example Ismene, who comes from a martial arts dojo. He trains and studies extra hard to make up for it. Only his team knows about this, and they don't bring it up, just secretly support him.
Q: What is perhaps their biggest flaw? Are they aware of it, or completelly oblivious?
A: Alexander is not that perceptive, and while his team members *do* point this out to him, it never sticks. They gave up trying to change him, and just look out for him (especially Robin).
Q: What are their sleeping habits?
Leiah is a night owl and likes to sleep in, though can function normally with little sleep.
Ismene is a sleep talker, further not helping Leiah sleep (since they share a dorm room).
Alexander is a heavy sleeper and is almost always groggy even after 8+ hours of sleep.
Robin falls asleep quickly and is a light sleeper. He also wakes up stupidly early.
Q: Would your character be the kind to get into fights (physical or verbal)? Would they be a good fighter, or cave in easily?
A: Alexander and Leiah can get into both kinds of fights easily, while Robin and Ismene try to avoid them. Ismene is the only one in the group who couldn't hold her ground, especially in verbal fights.
Q: Does your character like animals? What are some of their favourites? Would they want pets?
A: Ismene loves animals. She would have dozens of pets if Leiah (and the school) let her, but only has 3 mice in a cage next to her bed.
Q: What would be their favourite physical trait about themselves?
A: Alexander is proud that he is already taller than most of his siblings, despite being one of the youngest.
Q: Your OC encounters a huge puddle in their path. Do they try to go around is? Jump over it? Take a few moments to splash around?
Robin goes around, finding the least muddy path.
Alexander doesn't notice it until he's ankles deep in it and the water is in his shoes.
Ismene plays at the edge of the puddle by making ripples with the tip of her shoes.
Leiah jumps over it. If unsuccessful, she walks away as quickly as possible.
Q: Imagine your OCs ghost hunting.
Alexander is immediatelly suspicious of sudden noises.
Ismene freaks out all the time.
Robin finds a rational explanation for everything.
Leiah is just there to freak out Alexander, calm down Ismene, and maybe make some specrtal buddies.
Q: Does your OC have a favourite season? What about a favourite holliday?
Alexander likes summer, because it's warm and there's no school. He likes the Fireworks festival, because fireworks are pretty.
Robin likes spring, because there's finally something to do on the farm back home. He likes Festivale day, because kids get to have lots of fun and it also symbolizes driving away the winter.
Ismene likes autumn (fall), because the colours are pretty. Also the Fireworks festival, also because it's pretty.
Leiah likes winter, because only then her layers of clothes don't recieve weird looks. She doesn't have a favourite holliday, because they didn't celebrate them where she's from.
Q: What is something that would make your character fly into a rage?
Alexander would fight anyone who teases or bullies anyone who can't defend themselves (through absence or otherwise).
Robin is very unreadable, so his rage would be cold and unnoticable. The reason would be someone offending him and his huntsman abilities because of his background.
Ismene is very "Lawful Good". Anything she sees as unfair to her or someone else would work her up
Leiah would fight anyone who she thinks has something against her for no real reason.
Q: Is there a certain person in this world they cannot stand? The very mention of this character makes them tremble with anger or fear.
A: All of them hate Alexander's older sister, Kleo, who is a bully and a witch (figurativelly speaking). Alexander tries to be more reserved around her, Robin and Ismene try to avoid conflict with her, and Leiah would physically fight her if that didn't result with trouble for Alexander. Speaking of Leiah, she also partially hates Mariamne, and fully despises Sam (from Team Lasso).
Q: Does your character have dreams of getting married and/or having children?
A: Alexander, sometimes. Ismene definitelly for both. Robin and Leiah never really thought about it that much.
And lastly, probably my favourite one:
Q: If your character was going to get arrested, what would be the most likely reason for it?
Alexander: disturbing public peace.
Robin: shoplifting just to get to Alexander and keep him for freaking out that he got arrested.
Ismene? Never. She gets nervous just thinking about breaking the law, even in a minor way.
Leiah: getting into fights with literally anyone that looks at her funny for getting into fights with people that look at her funny.
And that’s all I have for now! If I stumble upon any individual OC questions, I’ll add them to the queue individually, tagging them as such. I just bundled these up together as such because I had to transcribe them all anyways, so why not transcribe all in one go?
