[Fallen Child]- Few knew well as Frisk just exactly what Chara meant- after all, didn’t they climb Ebbott for similar reasons? It had... come as quite a shock when they materialized in a new body- To Mom and Dad, they were Chara. To Frisk, they were their voice, their narrator, their guide, their soul match... Ever since they first learned of Chara and Asriel’s story, there was one thing that they wanted to do if they ever met them in the flesh- or, whatever Chara’s body was made of now.
Briefly, in their eyes, they saw another wearing a green and yellow sweater in Chara’s place, the one they couldn’t SAVE... but someday. Now, they just reached out and pulled Chara in close, holding them tightly as if afraid they might disappear if they let go. “Hugs, are nice...”

(leidenism) “ sorry i’m so hard to deal with sometimes . ”
@leidenism
He turned his head slowly to glance over at the child. Putting a hand on his hip as the rest of his body soon followed the motion. Bending down to their eye level. “Now Darling, why on earth are you apologizing?”
“Hard to deal with? Doubtful. You’re much more relaxed than a fussy diva, and that’s coming from me.” he replied, placing a hand to his chest to emphasize his point.
If anyone was hard to deal with...it was certainly himself. In more ways than he cared to admit at times.
“So don’t worry about it! We difficult ones stick together hm?” He replied with a teasing grin. Gently ruffling their hair, before standing straight again. “Now! How about we go get something unhealthy? Like some chocolate or ice cream? Sound good darling?”
Was he the best person for watching a child? Not nessacarily. he’d done it before and was decent at it, but when it came to keeping a child on a schedule....well he’d rather make sure it was a fun day rather than a boring productive one.
He’d had enough of work and being cooped up. He wanted outside for awhile. and so apparently the ticket to that was spending time with the child of the king and queen. Besides, how hard could one kid be to watch?
They laid on top of the flower bed, face pressed against cold dirt and fragrant flora. As they laid there, Frisk had a hard time to distinguish if the voice that called out to them was real, or just in their head. Though their whole body was aching, they decided force themselves up to take a look. To their surprise, there was actually someone there.
“U-Uhh..”
Frisk wanted to talk, scream out in pain, for help, anything. But, they felt as there was something stuck in their throat, and their words kept being bottled up in their chest. Though struggling, they managed to push themselves up to a sitting position.
Any other day, Asriel would have worried maybe a little less: perhaps she was just out with a few monster friends, or the very few non-monster allies she had (somehow) made. It left him wondering exactly what she was doing, if she was getting into the more dangerous sorts of trouble that could only reflect terribly, but... Chara could take care of herself. She always could.
This time was different, though. They were far from home, touring the States in the name of reaching out to the community, helping monsters settle into new territory, and teaching humans all about their new neighbors. It was hard work, but the sights, the foods, the sounds and the experiences were all pretty amazing.
And from that came a very heavy dread that settled on his shoulders.
He had absolutely no idea where Chara was, or what she was doing.
(For all he knew she could be dead.)
His father had told him "no, don't, it's too dangerous to go on your own", but what else was there to do? Asriel couldn't be happy with sitting around doing nothing, and he didn't know the locals well enough to go around asking them, so there was only one thing to be done: and that was to start searching. The threat of danger didn't stop him, fearful as he was deep inside; it was just a reason to carry his swords with him and to billow smoke with every breath.
But, perhaps, he fit in just perfectly.
The countless pine and cedar trees cloaked the forest floor in darkness, the moon only once or twice shining through the fog, and in the dead of night amid the woods of Gravity Falls, his footsteps were never alone. Tall and clearly monstrous, the curved horns and glowing eyes.. he hoped there was no humans lost out here, lest he make himself yet another local cryptid.
His soft, fearful calls of a name only likened him further to such a creature, roaming listlessly to find something clearly lost.
It was simple enough for the spell to kick in with how little Sans slept on a regular basis as it was. He went out easily, unaware of Chara’s intent to descend into the darkness he kept hidden away from her. After all... there was no way she would be able to see into his deamscape and understand... right?
He’d been wrong...
Sans found himself in a familiar forest dusted by a thick coating of snow. The moment he felt the snow brushing against his bones he knew where he was within his dream. After all... He’d had these nightmares long enough that he knew the difference between dreams and reality. It was the only knowledge that kept him sane every time he slept.
Out in the open stood a familiar figure, one that tore at the skeleton’s SOUL to look at. He wanted to reach out and stop what he knew was coming. Yet time after time he could never move from this spot. The one place where he had failed the one who had mattered to him most.
It didn’t take long for another figure to appear before his brother. This one was dressed like Frisk and looked like the gentle soul Sans knew, yet the gleaming red eyes full of malice told him otherwise. They continued to walk forward, ignoring anything Papyrus tried to say to them and forcing the taller skeleton to take a tiny step back in fear.
Like every other time, Sans’ hand dug into the bark of the tree closest to him, and like every other time he could only watch as the child tore his brother’s SOUL into shreds. His baby brother only hung on for moments as Sans finally felt his body move to race towards him. If he could only get there in time...!
His timeline’s Chara laughed as Papyrus faded to dust just as Sans made it to his side. Instead of moving on as they had in the past, they had stayed to watch Sans suffer. His own personal demon to remind him of how badly he had failed.
Boney hands reached to clutch the dusty scarf left behind by his brother, his breath coming out in gasps as emotion flooded his SOUL once more. Even after seeing this sight so many times... he could never bring himself to shut away the pain it gave him. As tears ran down his cheekbones, his timeline’s Chara’s crackling laughter sparked a lurking rage within him.
It was all their fault... ...so they had to P A Y.
The shift within the skeleton was immediate, snarls rippling forth as his once-gentle hands shifted into claws. It was a sight he had shown his daughter only once when they first met, something he wished dearly to take back. Instead of the skeleton everyone knew there was a beast in his place. Something nothing more than a true monster. With his magic engulfing his form, there was no worry of having so little HP. His magic boosted his normally minuscule amount of life, giving this beast the means necessary to capture the Frisk-look-alike within his jaws before they could escape.
With one tense moment, it almost seemed like this creature wouldn’t be able to pierce Chara’s body. In the next... there was a sickening sound as teeth broke though and blood began to stain the pristine snow beneath them. The once-white bones were soaked with the liquid, turning his lower jaw red to mark what he’d done. His attack on the child’s body only ceased when the blood-red soul shattered into nothing, which by then all he did was simply drop their body with no remorse.
They’d killed his brother with not a care in the world. And so...
After recent events, the family needed a good break. Political and legal chaos was something you could only bear for so long before it got tiring, and that combined with business as usual was just too much.
It was just the three of them, but there wasn't anything wrong with that. Asriel liked to think that he was enough of a voice of reason: Frisk was mischievous and Chara had a tendency to downright terrorize humans at any chance, but they would both listen to him.
Well, maybe...
"All right.. wow, this zoo's a lot bigger than I remember it," he thought aloud, honestly impressed at the size of the map unraveled between his paws. Well, it was one of the most famous and accredited zoos in the whole country, so in retrospect, it wasn't too surprising.
"Where do you two want to go first? I don't really mind, we've got until 6 and it'd be neat to see everything!”
Because, really, there was something uplifting about seeing all sorts of animals being taken care of so well. It was sad to imagine that the world was too messed up in some places to let its wildlife live freely, but at least they were in good hands! There really needed to be more thoughtful, preservation-minded people like that.
Although, it was always a little weird to see animals at the zoo that looked a lot like a familiar monster face...
