Once again, I watch my beloved Comet Warlock from afar, as he hands candy to various strangers on the street. A dubious activity, admittedly, but I know for certain he would never harbor any ill intent.
Even after knowing Mr. Lemres for such a long time, many things about him are still a mystery to me. Why does he take such joy in giving sweets away to the undeserving swine of this town? Why does he himself have such an affinity for that sugary junk? I can barely stand to touch my lips to any cake or confection (though I would certainly do it if Mr. Lemres asked it of me). Most importantly, where does he get all that candy and cake from?
… Though there is a mystery surrounding him that is still greater than anything having to do with sweets.
Just what lies behind those eyelids of his?
In all the years I’ve known him, not once have I ever seen Mr. Lemres open his eyes. Not in front of others, not alone where only I can see him. I don’t know what reason he could have for hiding them, but he’s succeeded in making me insatiably curious and eager for an answer.
I wonder what color his eyes could be… Could they be blue, like the sky? Green, like the vast fields? Or perhaps orange, like the sunset?
Or could it be… that he hides them because they are not there at all?
I must find out… I won’t be able to rest until I…
… A-Ah! Here he comes!
While I was lost in my musings, he must have finished mingling with the unimportant people, and now he’s headed in my direction with his collection of sweets. I wasn’t prepared for this!
But wait! This is the perfect opportunity… Today, I’ll ask him what I most want to know.
"Yo, Feli! I didn’t expect to see you out here!"
"Ah… W-Well…"
Curses! I can’t find the courage to speak properly when he’s this close to me!
"How are you this evening? Would you like some cake? I still have a few slices of Devil’s Food left."
"Uh… Um…"
Just ask him, you idiot! One simple question!
"No? Would you prefer chocolate instead? I’ve got plenty of that, too."
One question. Mr. Lemres, could you please open your eyes? Then I can rest easy at last.
"… Here, why don’t you take this? It’s my favorite brand of dark chocolate. It’s really tasty!"
Silence.
"… O… Okay…"
I can do nothing but feebly take the chocolate bar out of his hands. He’s defeated me once again.
"Excellent! Well, it’s late, so I’m gonna head home… You should do the same. Stay safe, okay?"
Before I can say anything else, he’s taken off on his broomstick. I watch him fly farther and farther away from me until he disappears completely from sight.
… For what seems like the thousandth time, I’ve missed my chance to satiate my curiosity. All because of my weak, submissive mind. But no matter… I’ll eat this chocolate, and wait for my next chance to present itself.
I will learn what I want to know. Such is my fate.
