Noel Gallagher on Evan Dando
“He invited himself on tour with us. I didn’t think I’d like him. I thought he’d be a bit of a knobhead, but he was really down to earth. The thing I like about Evan is is that he’s not that deep, he talks shit and is funny as fuck and he’s got total spirit. He’d turn up and, all of a sudden, everyone would be in a good mood. We’d all be sat there miserable as fuck and he'd burst in like some puppy dog and tell us to stop fighting.”
...
“You’re bound to worry about him because he’s such a nice guy. But I know he can look after himself. He wouldn’t do anything stupid like commit suicide, it’s more likely he'd be trampled on by donkeys in Greece ... he’d die a real Dando death.”

In September, after having been arrested by armed police in Manchester for kicking a TV around Oasis’ hotel room, he took the advice of his friend and agent Russell Warby. He went home. Noel bumped into him at Heathrow Airport on his way out of the country.
“He looked fucking terrible, really fucked up and ill. Then he sent Liam a tape of his funny version of ‘Live Forever’ for his birthday. We didn’t expect to see him again, but he turned up in New York at the end of our tour in October. He looked really well. He’d cleaned himself up, washed his hair, had a shave and his eyes were open for a change. He suggested coming back with us. We said, ‘No. You’re looking fucking alright man, that’s the last thing you want to do!’ ... No, we don’t feel responsible for the state he got in. I think he was on his way there prior to hanging around us.”
