R.C. I honestly love your YOI characterizations so much it's killing me. I just want you to talk alloy them all the time. Like do you think that one of the only things that never kicked up Yuuri's anxiety growing up was dating other people because he was fine mooning after Victor until either that went away or he died? It was just too all-consuming? And like, Victor finding out that Yuuri never had a lover because he literally couldn't think about anyone else, not just shyness?
Ah, the old celeb crush conundrum: on the one hand, you’re fulfilled emotionally by imagining your romance with them, but on the other hand you’re setting yourself up for disappointment by idealizing someone who not only doesn’t know you exist but is definitely not the person you think they are.
As far as Yuuri goes, I think homeboy was too focused on skating to give dating a lot of thought, but his celeb crush and the fact that he doesn’t really seem to think of himself as a sexual being (pre-Eros) helped keep him in that little bubble. That, and you know Yuuri has this ability to make everyone fall in love with him within five minutes of meeting him, but he has no idea. Phichit has no less than 30 meet-cute videos on his phone that all end with Yuuri unwittingly turning all those poor people down because he doesn’t recognize when anyone’s into him (even if they say it point-blank to his face).
When Victor learns that Yuuri’s never actually been with anyone else, he probably writes a listicle for Buzzfeed called “24 Reasons You Should Be Ashamed Of Yourself For Not Dating Yuuri Katsuki.”
