*Mostly about Lena and Stef* First of all, I love how the show seems to be real, and not over dramatic. I think it's nothing compared to the "Secret Life of the American Teenager", because "Secret Life" was just so overbearing with all the couple drama and total bull. With "The Fosters", it has drama to keep you engaged, but they add so many problems to the mix, and not just one paticular theme. I also enjoy the chemistry of Lena and Stef. It's pretty rare to see a same-sex couple (that are major characters) on TV, but I feel "The Fosters" is paving the way for same-sex couples to feel natural in the TV world. I'm also glad that they have actresses who look like everyday moms, instead of supermodels, or who look like porn stars. (Since some people love to watch lesbian porn.) They don't exaggerate the relationship of Lena and Stef, and they show that any couple has problems. They don't show the women making out constantly, or whatever. They are just as normal as any couple raising kids. Simply put, they don't show the wives as lesbian porn stars. It's pretty sad when some people bash this show, because of how the Fosters aren't the "normal" kind of family. When Lexi's parents came to the Fosters' house for dinner, one would assume or infer that since Lexi's family is Catholic, they disapprove marriage equality. Yet, I was happy that they broke the stereotype, and said along the lines of "No matter what familes are composed of, family is a Christian value." I think they wanted to tell the audience that not all Christians are narrow-minded, and even Mrs. Rivera explained how people interperet things differently. Kudos to the Riveras for talking about the issue. Also, everything that is obvious, isn't told out bluntly. They work it in. For example, Lena and Stef don't say "We are lesbians", they use different ways, like "We aren't legally married, but we are in our hearts." I recommend this show to anyone who is looking for a new kind of show dynamic. It's better than most TV out there, and it isn't filled with loads of teenage sex, or the usual TV topics. It's a show fit for the future, and I hope that we see more shows like this.
