DIY Lens Repair Done!
So for almost a year my Canon EF-S 17 -85mm f/4-5.6 USM lens had the classic error 01 issues and altogether stopped focusing below 70mm and the aperture was stuck. The cost to have this repaired by Canon would have been a few hundred but luckily, I found some help online and fixed it myself in 2 hours and only paid the price of the new aperture diaphragm ($24.00) http://doekle.nl/canon_17_85_IS_repair.html http://www.pbase.com/barry_2718/efs1785mm I am ready to take the Bay area by storm with some wide shots again.
My camera broke!!!
:( I'm pretty unhappy about this. If anyone can help me in the slightest, please do not hesitate to do so!
I've had this camera for less than a year; I got it in August of 2011 as a birthday present from my aunt, who owned it for a few months before giving it to me. She didn't use it very often, I use it frequently. I am what some may call a camera-holic. I am careful not to bang it around or let other people use it. I keep it in my jacket pocket with my wallet and flash drive or in my jeans pocket, and it is generally on my person at all times.
I've looked on the internet and tried several things but none of them have worked. I'm extremely hesitant to take it somewhere to get it fixed as I know it will be expensive. I love this camera, guys, please help me revive it!
Make and model: Canon PowerShot SD1400IS
What's wrong: I turn it on and it beeps and says "Lens error. Will shut down automatically. Restart camera" sometimes the lens doesn't retract into the rest of the camera, sometimes it does.
What I've tried:
Turning it on and off: did nothing.
Hitting the side of it with my palm: made the lens retract.
Placing it lens up and pressing the power button and the shutter button at the same time: did nothing.
Tapping the lens while it is extended in an attempt to dislodge any dirt or debris that may be stuck in there: did nothing.
I'm really bummed about this. If anyone could give me any type of tech support, I would very much appreciate it! Thank you guys!
How do you fix an lens error? on a digital camera?
Help please?
Goodnight, Sweet Prince
My little orange Canon Powershot SD1400 died today, from the typical lens error. I've owned like, four or five of these in the past few years, and they all went the same way. But what do I expect, I adventure a lot and that camera usually tags along.
This one managed to make it from daily life in Belgium to a massive backpacking trip though Eastern Europe, the beaches in South Texas and Mexico, mountain tops in Colorado, family gatherings in Utah, and it's last two months were spent in good service in the Sahel in Mauritania. It's in a better place now.
I emailed Nikon, hopefully my camera is still magically under warranty so i dont have to pay for them to fix my lens. Somehow i think im gonna have to pay for it myself, or a new camera........................
note to self: dont get THAT drunk again......................or maybe do, but use the hand strap next time, why does no one ever use the hand strap??
