Leo was the storm that tore through the Hendrix household. They were the most rambunctious of their siblings. Leo was someone that could never sit still. The house soon became scattered with toys that kept Leo occupied. Leo’s favorite were always their lego sets, from a young age their loved using the small blocks to design different things. It was actually one of the only things that could get Leo to stay still.
When Leo was wrapped up in the world of their legos they were causing trouble with their older sister Ava. The two of them were inseparable from a young age. The would do anything and everything under the sun to keep themselves occupied. Their mom Kamille had handful with those two.
Ava and Leo’s favorite past time was writing songs and making over the top music videos for them. Those videos might be embarrassing now but Kamille still saves the tapes just in case a significant other comes over and wants to see them. Who needs embarrassing photos when you have embarrassing videos?
Leo’s love for buildings never dissipated. Once they hit middle school they were sketching things instead of building them out of legos but the passion was still there.
They designed and built the sets for all their high school’s plays and musicals, it was good because it kept them out of trouble since Leo started to go a little stir crazy after Ava left for college.
Leo loves her younger siblings but she was never super close to them, at least not Ava close. She got along better with Lana than she did Noah but there was still a divide between the siblings. Though there have been a few times Lana has needed a place to crash and Leo was more than happy to help her sibling out.
Leo majored in architecture in college. It was pretty much the one thing in their life that made total sense to them. It was a 5 year program which was a lot but in the end it was worth it.
After graduation Leo was able to hook a job with a small architecture firm but it quickly became clear that she was a “diversity hire” and that their colleagues really didn’t respect what they brought to the table. This mindset was nothing new to Leo, they had dealt with it their entire life but they had hoped that things would be different if she was doing what she loved.
Leo played the game for a few years, dealing with snide comments, and sometimes outright racist and sexist comments, slowly saving money so that when they were ready they could drop the place like the pile of shit it was. While she was there she formed good relationships with a handful of big name clients, all of which followed her to her new firm.
Leo started up their own architecture firm, it wasn’t easy work but it was work that they were proud to do. Leo made sure that the firm would focus on hiring BIPOC architects and amplify voices that were marginalized within the field. It seemed like that was the type of work that people were really hungry for. The first few months were slow, Leo had only been able to bring on two new architects but after the first quarter things took off and Leo hasn’t looked back since.
Besides the work that their firm does, Leo has also prided themself on ensuring that everyone there has a healthy work life balance. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t times where people are swamped, but what it does mean is that if there’s no work to do and no meetings to be had people don’t have to come be in the office.
Leo is laid back, creative, and empathetic. But they’re also a little controlling, reckless, and cold.
