Take It on Faith | Leon & Mary
When deciding on where she should make her home in Arcadia, the Grand Oak Library-- at which she desperately hoped to secure a position-- wasn’t the only location factoring into her choice of the Three Sisters’ Inn. Before immigrating to the mainland, Mary’s maternal ancestors had come from this island, bringing their faith with them to Konohana. She had grown up particularly pious for a Leudan child, dedicated to her mother’s religion despite the absence of a local shrine; prayer to the dragons was instead carried out in the privacy of their home, and often from her own sickbed in an appeal that they see fit to heal her.
Mary had been well for years now, and truly healthy for the first time in her life since she left the contaminated air of her native island behind-- and so she visited the Dragon King Shrine often to pay the thanks she felt they were due, regardless of any actual involvement.
Sometimes, the belief in a thing itself is healing.
Today wasn’t different from any other visit. She slipped what she could realistically spare into the donation box and placed an offering upon the altar, before bowing her head, pressing her hands together, and breathing a silent word of gratitude.
No wishes-- she didn’t need them.
Not from something that had already given her so much.
