That being said, he was way tougher than she thought he’d be. But that just made this whole training exercise agreement that much better for her. No point in having a sparring partner if they can’t even knock her down.

    “Hey,” a whisper loud enough for the young man on the other table to hear her, lower face concealed behind the menu to look somewhat more discrete. How she ended up in this predicament was a long story and one she didn’t have time to retell at the moment, but he looked capable so perhaps he could help her out. “Don’t make it obvious but I need your help,” eyes darting about in case her companion came back from the bathroom. “Let’s just say I got myself in a little too deep and now I’m kind of stuck with this guy who may or may not want me dead if I spill the beans,” she explains almost too casually, as if it weren’t such a big deal. “I can pay you if you help me,” since most needed some incentive; few did so out of the kindness of their hearts.
