Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac (March 5, 1658 – October 16, 1730)
Painting depicting Cadillac receiving letters patent from representatives of King Louis XIV of France by Fernand Le Quesne. Signed in lower left corner: "F. LeQuesne." Printed on front: "Courtesy Detroit Institute of Arts. Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, 1658-1730. Founded Detroit in 1701. He left Detroit in 1710 to become Governor of Louisiana. Inscription on painting reads 'Receiving patent papers for Detroit from representatives of King Louis of France.'" Handwritten on back: "Cadillac."
