I’ve been thinking a lot about how lesbianism seems to be something that, men do not understand, as straight women also do not. Whenever I do try a dating app (mostly just looking for friendships), I always see women who put “actively seeking women.” And then once you speak to them, they’re actually just looking for a threesome with their boyfriends. I don’t think they understand lesbianism. We do not want to interact sexually with your cishet boyfriend, or amuse him.

And when we have “representation” for us, it’s mostly for the male view, the male gaze. It has nothing to do with us as a minority, but for men. The way they dress, act, and behave is nothing for US to enjoy and appreciate. We don’t want to see her half naked and appropriated for her looks. We want a deep, emotional, and viewpoints that we as lesbians can understand. We don’t want views of looking at her just sexually like men, we want underlying things of them. As a character representing us.

When we say we want lesbian representation and respect for us as lesbians, we do not get it. And as lesbians, we are often forgotten in our OWN community, but cishets are valued above us, when they don’t inherently belong in our safe spaces. We’re pushed out of something trans lesbians of colour helped create, without their efforts, and thousands of other lesbians, we would not have what we have today.

So take a moment and revaluate what you think we are. Because we are more than a fucking porn category. We are more than something for the male gaze. We are women and non-binary lesbians that love women for more than their bodies. We are more than a “third fuck buddy” idea because you view us as sex objects.
