The sunrise was an unfamiliar sight. Weeks in horrid captivity had made it feel foreign. She thought she'd never see it again nor feel its comforting warmth on her skin. It rose slowly, its streaks of yellow and orange rays flashing across the ocean.

"My Lady?"

Ashley, the Princess Aquila, stepped away from the shoreline and faced her knight. Sir Leon had lost most of his armour; there were bruises and scratches on his entire body. She knew he was exhausted, yet he stood as if he could keep fighting for another day, another month. Hours ago, he had told her how much he admired her bravery. Ashley told him it was his resilience that inspired her. If he kept going, she would, too.

A few paces behind him was the destrier Leon thought the villagers had slaughtered. The horse stayed alive and safe the entire time, patiently waiting for his master and the princess. He grunted, kicking the dirt, and Ashley interpreted it to mean he wanted them to hasten so they could finally leave.

"I'm coming!" Ashley called, making her way over. Leon's smile made her cheeks rosier. He was chosen by her father to rescue her, and he could have abandoned the journey when it became clear that it was more dangerous and more evil than anyone had predicted. He never stopped trying to reach her, so Ashley never gave up. They saved each other in the end.

Leon held out his hand. "Ready to leave?"

Ashley took it, heartbeat rising as his fingers curled around hers. "I'm ready."
