Fell down a google worm hole while trying to psychologically reconcile the two sides of ffvii’s Vincent: the quiet, serious, doesn’t say much, and when he does speak it is a 50-50 chance that what he says is awkward or weird VERSUS the dramallamadingdong of cape swishing and gun twirling and EPIC POSES and OVERLY DRAMATIC EVERYTHING (yet so quiet and serious and “....” until something hilariously awkward comes out of his mouth).
I started in one place related to people who are shy-but-dramatic and somehow ended up on a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT DISCUSSION OH SO VERY DIFFERENT in which fans of FFVII attempted to apply MBTI to the entirety of the cast (still reading that).
Anyhow, one person made a claim for Vincent as an INTP that involved serious MBTI-foo that required deep googling for me to make sense of. Still working on that, tbh. But it suddenly sparked a whole lot of “OH, okay. okay. that’s an interesting explanation for various scenes in Dirge” and now I feel vaguely compelled to write a few mini-metas on that.
Useful for my own characterization purposes tbh.
That said:
Disclaimer: Gonna state upfront that I have mixed feelings about MBTI. I sometimes find it useful as a shorthand, especially when talking about characterization and motivations but as soon as discussion takes MBTI too seriously (as literal truth), I get uncomfortable.
i can never go on chopped because i’m too afraid of disappointing scott conant
It is never easy. Bumps in the road are often dangerous for your car. That pot hole can get you killed. Darling drive a little slower, won’t you? These bones of yours are too fragile, you will break. Drive the speed limit, and under it if it’s icy. Black ice is not just slippery it can be so deadly too. Like an eel, or a boy. Check your rear view mirrors, make sure there isn’t an angry driver behind you. If they are too close to your bumper switch lanes. Take the high road. Remember that car is an extension of yourself. Remember it is not armor, you are still able to get hurt. Don’t be sad if it is not perfect, it is beautiful, it is machinery, the fact that it works properly is enough. And you are enough for it. Remember that car, remember the signs when oil is running low. Remember to treat it how you would anyone else’s. Remember it is important and you are too.
s.r., advice for car owners that can be similarly applied to taking care of your human body.
