For the ficfest, when you complete the work do I just hold back on posting it until the date, or do I set the publication date to the birthday and click post, and just trust ao3 will post it on the correct day?

I don’t think you can set the publication date in the future so I would just leave today’s date on it for now. I have set the collection to unrevealed so it won't show up until I 'reveal' the collection which I won't do until the 30th September.
Then on the 30th September when the collection is revealed I will send out some reminders to change the published date to the 30th September so it shows correctly on ao3.
Any questions though feel free to DM me about it. I am really excited you are getting involved, I am currently reading your mafia Lestappen fic and loving it! (although I am the slowest read in existence so I am getting through it slowly and making sure I am actually taking it in and enjoying it!)

Charles and Max meet and one thing leads to the other and they start dating. Charles' main goal was to get information from Max, he didn't expect to fall in love.

Ah that is me being an idiot because I've just remember that you can backdate fics but not forward date them.
The best thing to do is to leave it as whatever date you write it for now. It won't show up yet as the collection is marked as unrevealed. Then on the 30th September go back in and change the publication date to the 30th September.
