so i know i haven't rly been posting much meta analysis or theory-crafting stuff on here lately, but tonight i had the diabolical urge to create my own insane, mentally unwell shitpost theory about resident evil 9
some of you may be very familiar with my good pal @sapphire-weapon's aptly-named "dad theory." for those uninitiated, the theory boils down to "grace is leon's long-lost daughter borne of a tryst between leon and alyssa."
this is all well and good and would ultimately be very funny if true, but then i had a thought: what if we could make the theory even funnier?
i'm sure many of you also know that there's speculation about who leon's contact/navigator-person is that we hear in the third trailer. it doesn't sound like hunnigan and i've seen people suggest it's jill, sherry, or even ashley.
so my mind decided to go on a journey, combining both of these things together let's go through that journey together.
i present to you my proposal for RE9: the fucked-up family extravaganza in pseudo-greentext format (because i really can't be assed to write this out properly as if it were a legit theory lmfao)
the voice we hear in the trailer talking to leon is actually ashley
leon and ashley either rekindled a relationship or are strained but working through it like nothing's wrong
both of them know who grace is (AKA: leon's kid for reals)
leon procured some intel about what was going on with grace but was not permitted/unable to intervene
calls up ashley to ask for her help
they're specifically working together on this situation outside of the government/off the record
when he eventually runs into grace, leon has to keep up appearances that he doesn't know why grace is there or who she actually is
as an aside, leon is obviously still infected (which is a legitimate speculation/prediction on my part, ftr) so that's brewing in the background the whole time
ashley may or may not know about leon's infection but he downplays the effects regardless
eventually via gameplay and perhaps cutscenes, leon and ashley subtly/passively reveal that grace isn't actually alyssa's biological daughter
because ashley is the (former) president's daughter, a massive cover-up was initiated when she found out she was pregnant (especially out of wedlock and with a high-ranking government official)
ashley kept leon's name out of everything so they never found out he was the one who did it
babby grace was shuttled around, alyssa somehow came into possession of her (perhaps as a favor to leon since they probs still had some sort of connection, just for funsies)
government even goes as far as to forge grace's birth certificate so it says she's older than she actually is so there's no way to trace it back to ashley
alyssa continued to protect/raise grace as a favor to leon until she croaked
it was so well covered up that the bad guys don't even realize grace is not alyssa's biological daughter
bad guys are pursuing grace for basically no raisin
any type of antidote or w/e they make with her blood ends up failing and that's when leon tells grace the truth
everyone feels bad bc it was a stupid situation that grace paid the ultimate price for by never knowing her dad (and her biological mother by extension)
they all beat the bad guys bc of course they do
but unfortunately, leon's infection, uncurable since grace is not alyssa's biological kid, starts ramping up to a crescendo
it clicks in grace's head that even though leon knew her blood wouldn't work as an antidote, he still went out to check in on her anyway
leon scrambles away like a gremlin but kicks his communicator thing to grace so she can talk to ashley
ashley sorrowfully tells grace to kill leon
grace puts a bullet in leon's head after an unnecessarily extended hesitation cutscene
downer ending for everyone involved
