What if you think about it like this; These pokemon are too weak to fight so it’s too cruel to make them go battle and be constantly beat up, so instead you give them to the professor where he can ensure their growth/safely release them back into the wild where they can get stronger at their own pace and he rewards you with candy for doing a good thing?
