“In a certain sense, the work I do begins where the Internet ends,” Mr. Boylan said. Matthew Boylan is one of eight Reference Librarians at the NYPL who manage ASK NYPL, the Library's reference hotline. Mr. Boylan has 650 databases and millions of books at his fingertips, information that a simple internet search cannot reach. He has answered questions ranging from the Laotian general Vang Pao to old tuberculosis hospitals on Long Island, from borrowing the latest season of “Boardwalk Empire” to questions from surgeons mid operation. This article in The New York Times highlights Mr. Boylan's amazing work at the NYPL, helping New Yorkers get the answers they need.
