Okay I thumbed through some of Kon's more notable comics and now I am of the firm opinion that making him Luthor's biological soup baby with Superman is actually better than his Cadmus clone origins in the 90s
Like it makes more sense for Kon's struggle for self-identity and autonomy for him to have come from a plot to ruin the last son of a lost alien race made by his worst enemy, rather than be a clone imitation for a dead hero made for some greater good.
Ofc yeah there's something to be said about eugenics and assuming that Lex is pure evil and Clark is pure good, but I like to subvert it as though Kon is just Luthor's firmness and Clark's generosity brought to its worst extremes. Kon is the best of both of them for all the worst reasons.
Like imagine being Kon...
You were created for nefarious purposes. You were a tool that was taken out of the hands of your evil maker, not a child rescued from abuse. Your other parent cannot commit to owning up to the fact that you are his flesh and blood, and you cannot blame him for his hot-cold approach to you. You are half the stolen blood of a lost civilization, a parody of all that had been stolen from a precious noble few who mourn their home every day. Your are also half-weapon, half-scheme, half-tool. You are somehow both good and annoying, suspicious and harmless. You are told you have a lot to make up for, but they are the sins of your maker. You are made to feel you have to apologize for being made, some days it seems more real. You chase affection into dark pits of hungry hands and careless mouths from people who believe treating you like a toy is better than treating you like a weapon, and sometimes you cannot help but agree.
You don't know who you are.
You just know that you woke up in a world where you were the most unlovable thing in every room you walk into.
