PSA: This is the last I am going to say about the Pokémon GO situation between those who do not play and those that do. First: yes, I do have a life. Just like you. I go to work forty plus hours a week and come home to do laundry, clean, and take care of my fuzzy companions. I pay my bills. If I want to spend my spare time adventuring around my town I have every right. Second: No I am not 'ten'. But I was pretty young when I became a fan of Pokémon. And who are you to decide at what age it becomes inappropriate to like something? No one. If this is the insult you want to throw my way I assume that you don't watch Disney, buy coloring books, eat several brands of cereal, play with legos, and pretty much have stopped doing anything you enjoyed at a younger age. Which I would find sad. There is nothing wrong with spending time back in your childhood when things were a lot more simple, especially with how mundane being an adult can be. So if anyone has things that take them back that they enjoy, then GOOD. Third: If your only real problem is that you are sick of hearing about it, it is completely unnecessary to be insulting and derogatory. I do not belittle you for the things you enjoy or for cluttering my feed with sports paraphernalia, I expect the same respect. Fourth: I think you should take a deeper look at yourself that you feel the need to bash other people that are having fun. I would like to live your life that something this small is allegedly the only thing you can find to be so upset about. Me, I have what seems like a never ending stream of things to stress about and for a few hours I can play Pokémon GO and take a breather from them. Fifth: Everyone has the right to enjoy things. You dont have to partake, nor do you have to understand. If you have something you enjoy then that is wonderful. No matter what someone might think, don't give up on it. Life is so short. It's too short to spend doing nothing but work and getting by and denying yourself things because somehow you got the idea in your head that you are 'too old'. I repeat: SO SHORT. Find something you can enjoy and be happy about. And don't begrudge others theirs, be happy for them. Sixth: If you knew what Pokémon GO has done for people, or the mechanics of it you would know that it isn't just staring at your phone like some mindless drone. I have travelled my hometown and discovered things I did not know. We have a wall of art. A wall of freakin' art! I discovered you can rent kayaks. I watched the sun set all week. I got to teach little kids and their parents how to play the game. I talked with random interesting people I never would have met. Because let's face it, we all say we are going to get out and then we get home and just decide to stay in. Well Pokémon GO got us out! And the phone vibrates when there is a Pokémon meaning I don't have to stare at my phone. I get to see things. Experience things. Laugh with people. I feel energized. Vitamin D deficiency is running rampant and we are out soaking up the sun! Some of the kids I was teaching at the fort, you know what they did? They stopped and read the signs at the cemetery there. They discovered things. All thanks to something you find 'stupid'. People of every background, race, religious, sexual orientation are out talking to eachother! That's amazing, and you don't even know how amazing it is because you are too busy hating this 'fad'. Lastly: I don't care if you play. I don't care if you understand it. I agree some people are being irresponsible with it but that isn't the fault of the game, it's a human error. I don't begrudge you not playing it, so don't try to take away the joy from other people. It's bitter, and it's sad. And I sincerely hope that you don't want to be the kind of person that tries to ruin other people's happiness. Or at the very least can be the adult you keep claiming I am not and be respectful and worry about you, not what others are doing.
