Offering Neighborhood School Programs, Jazz Mentor workshops, Sony Media Arts Programs, Summer Arts Camp, Jazz Camp, Senior Art and Special Needs Programs and the list goes on and on, The Watts Tower Arts Center is a light house in this historic community. Dynamically governed by Director Rosie Lee Hooks, The Watts Tower Arts Center is a 57 year old idea cloaked in the garments of youthful exuberance and the spirit of Lucile Krasne who taught the 1st classes on the foundation of the burned down home of the artist who built the Towers, Italian born Sabato Rodio! Time didn't bless WE THAT JACKSONS to meet the woman who sits at the helm of such a monumental undertaking, however her efforts to keep the light bright in this community echoes from the lips of local residents, business owners and invitees who encouraged us to visit the center. "Rosie is a champion for the center they say, most of what you see is because of her efforts." Unable to put a face with this community icon, WE instead took advantage of a few of the programs offered, WE walked the route, enjoyed the murals, visited the museum, photo opted with the turtles, talked with the staff, read the historical markers, met the other visitors, accepted the gifts, had a light lunch and 3 of the kids actually fell asleep on the park bench while Mom and Pops talked and talked and talked!
