This is my grandpa his name is Gert Jacobsohn and he is 86 years old. I don't really talk much about how my transitioning has effected my family but I just spent a week alone with my grandparents and I think it's time to talk about it. My grandpa was born in Berlin when he was 18 he his brother and mom and dad fled from Germany to France to Italy to Bolivia. He came to the US when he was 20 and met my grandma. His politics are liberal but still as most octegenarions he has conservative views about life compared to my own. I say this because family is so important to me and I actually needed the permission of all my grandparents to transition. Bless his heart my grandpa understands and tries his best. He calls me the names of my brothers and then Jeff, he doesn't get my pronouns right. But it's okay. It's okay because when we saw a movie after he used the restroom he stomped over with gods walking stick and told me there was an empty stall if I needed to go. It's okay because when I helped him get something he had dropped he called me a gentleman. It's okay because he says I'm going to be a fine young man. It's okay because even though he makes mistakes he tries so so hard and let's me know that he loves me. So if any of you are worried about how older people in your family will react know that if they love you they will let you know. There will be mistakes that's true of almost everyone, but in the end it'll be Okay.
