Australia post and the NSW Police have joined forces to produce and distribute a post card for the people of Parramatta. Their is a lot residents in the local area of Parramatta that would of received the postcard.
The post card is a warning notification in the shape of a post card, the main purpose of the card it to alert residents about unsecure letterboxes and about mail theft in the area. Mail theft can lead to identity theft.
The Parramatta area has been hit hard by mail theft, Its not only Parramatta that has this problem, our locksmith have been busy changing locks all over Sydney, From Blacktown to Sydney CBD.
All of the people that are having mail theft problems all have one thing in common; they all have the standard mailbox locks. The standard mailbox lock has a master key that can operate the lock as well as a owner key. This means that a thief could open an entire bank of mailboxes with one key, quicker then their owners in some cases.
The best way to identify if you lock is at risk is by looking at the front of your lock. If you lock has a code on the lock, then it most likely has a master key, If you mailbox works on a small key, then it most likely is easily pick open with lock picks. If you have a round shape key, this means you have one of the new security locks already installed on your mailbox.
The new security locks do not have a number on the front of the lock that a key can be produced from, They do not have a master key at all, They do not have a pull apart key used to pull the lock apart and allow easy access to the lock, They are very hard to lock pick even for a locksmith. The locks are a huge jump in security.
The price for a new security letterbox lock upgrade is about the same price as a standard mailbox lock, the difference is the level of security. Its about $44 per mailbox or Letterbox to have the lock supplied and installed. The call out fee is also payable, the fee depends on your location and the amount of time it takes to travel to you, For normal business hours the call out fee is between $88- 154.
