“I can braid your hair for you…if you’d like.”
Weiwei sat at the computer, her hair down around her shoulders. She found a place to work in Xiao Nai’s office, comfortable on the floor. Computer running the latest update of a Chinese Ghost Story, testing out the site to make sure the update had been perfect. She chewed on a twizzler, pulling her hair to the side. Finally done with the struggles of her long hair she pulled at her wrists, she realizing that once more she had forgotten a hair tie. Sighing, she brushed her hair behind her ear one more time, hoping it wouldn’t annoy her too much.
“I can braid your hair for you...if you’d like.” Xiao Nai offered, sliding in behind her. “Why are you sitting on the ground again?” He asked, pulling her hair back from her face. She felt his fingers skim under her hairline.
“It’s comfy and my back was bothering me earlier.” He made a humming noise, his fingers sliding through her hair softly. The gentle tug comforting.
“Where did you learn to braid hair?” She asked, drumming against the table. She felt the strands being interlocked in three different places, until he tied it at the back.
“My mother used to have really long hair. She would forget to tie it up when she came home to work. She would be cooking and my dad would do a quick braid while she kept preparing the meal. Always in a rush, the both of them. I noticed you would forget your hair ties or they would break often, so I got a pack. Their in my desk when you need them.” Weiwei ran a hand over the single strand in the back, feeling a sense of love. A tenderness of care she longed for.
“Thank you.” She smiled when he leaned down kissing her forehead.
