World Class Fitness in 100 Words
Life from the floor - by Gary
Back at the beginning of June this year I drove up to Portland to do my CrossFit Level 1 Trainers Course! I kinda kept it quiet about doing it just incase I wasn't successful at the final test! Anyway, there was no need for me to worry as a week after the course I received the email that I had been waiting for, and I'm very glad to report that I passed!
For those of you who don't know, but the CrossFit Trainers course is 2 days of lectures and physical sessions with a couple of workouts thrown in.
The thing that blows my mind is that no prior CrossFit experience is needed to attend the course! I knew this last year when I first started to look into becoming a trainer and I made a conscious decision to wait at least a year, get some experience, learn as much as I could from the coach's at Track Town CrossFit before I even considered attending the course. I think this was a very wise move, as pretty much everything covered on the course I had had some prior knowledge of.
However, even though I am now a CrossFit Trainer I don't have all the answers. I still can't perform all of the movements......damn you ring muscle ups! The course does not suddenly give you super powers and turn you into a CrossFit God......I'm sorry to tell you this.
Everyday back at the Box I am learning something new, practicing my skills and working on my coaching skills.....just because you know how to do something doesn't mean you know how to teach that something to someone else.
And so my CrossFit journey continues. I never thought that at the beginning of this I would be considering CrossFit as my next career path! Having not really come from a fitness background (other that the military) it was something that wasn't on my radar. But I can tell you now......from the bottom of my heart......that I absolutely adore this sport! The joy of helping people achieve there fitness goals is sometimes overwhelming as is the personal achievements in my own fitness.
Long may CrossFit continue for me........and may your journey start if it already hasn't :)
See you on the floor for the next WOD soon!
