Rico Verhoeven stops Levi Rigters in 2nd round of hilarious Glory Heavyweight GP final.
Truly the stuff legends are made of. Listen, Rigters entered this fight having suffered 2 knockdowns in the first two rounds of the tournament earlier in the day. He was basically on one leg as his left leg is completely shot. And it showed in the first round as he got knocked down twice in three minutes. Then he comes out in the 2nd and just bombs Verhoeven with a spinning back fist. Like, Verhoeven looked like he was on the verge of going out and when he got up he had spaghetti legs. Rigters fires one desperation combo to try to finish the fight and immediately gasses. Just has nothing left. Rico then manages to drop an exhausted Ritgers 2-3 times over the rest of the round to earn the stoppage win.
Rigters has been knocked down like 6 times tonight. And basically fought 3 rounds of this tournament with one leg. Not sure if that's a testament to his toughness or a testament to how bad heavyweight is.
Levi Rigters KOs Uku Jürjendal in the 2nd round!
Crazy first fight in the Glory Kickboxing Heavyweight Grand Prix. Rigters comes out and is immediately aggressive. Tries to exchange with Jurjendal but eats a glancing overhand right to the temple as well as a backfist off the same hand that lands behind the right ear and it drops him. To Rigters credit, he didn't look wobbly when he got up. Mostly a bit embarrassed. He got up and immediately settled down. Leg kicks were his main offense until the 2nd round where he landed a powerful overhand to the temple that floored Jurjendal. Jurjendal got up but was basically out on his feet. Had no idea where he was. Huge comeback for Rigters.
Rigters moves to the semi-finals! Next is Tariq Osaro vs Bahram Rajabzadeh.
Levi Rigters vs Bruno Susano - Enfusion 63
25 year old Dutch heavyweight Levi Rigters has made some waves since coming to Glory. The former Enfusion Super Heavyweight champion debuted in December 2020 by winning a one night 4-man heavyweight tournament when he KOed both of his opponents inside of the first round.
With Jamal Ben Saddik forced out of a trilogy fight with champion Rico Verhoeven due to injury, Glory decided to throw together another one night, four man tournament. On one side of the bracket will be champion Rico Verhoeven and Hesdy Gerges. On the other will be Levi Rigters and Tarik Khbabez.
Glory 77 will be this Saturday (Jan. 30) and will be available on FITE TV.
Levi Rigters takes decision over Bahram Rajabzadeh to advance to finals.
Probably the most interesting fight of the GP tonight thus far. Ritgers and Rajabzadeh go to war a bit and Rigters manages to survive a late scare to win the whole thing. Rajabzadeh's go to offense is to swarm the pocket quickly with huge swinging power punches. He is winding those things up. It worked in spots because he's so fast but Rigters did a good job of shelling up and kicking out the legs as he swarmed forward. That brought him some respite. But the big thing were the knees. As Rajabzadeh came forward, Rigters grabbed him and threw a knee that floored him. Didn't seem to really rock him hard but it turned the first into a 10-8 round. Rajabzadeh really struggled getting off effective offense despite his aggression. He seemed to be tiring our after 4 rounds of hard swarming. The 2nd was competitive though, as Rajabzadeh found a home for the hook. He was still getting hit with those kicks though. I think this was the round where Rigters landed that jump switch kick. He also seemed to hurt his and fought the rest of the fight on unstable legs. Dude was moving really carefully. Ended up getting knocked down in the third. Not really off a punch so much as a bunch of offense that ended with Rajabzadeh kind of pushing him to the ground.
I think Rigters' left leg is shot. Dude was limping around on it heavyweight after that botched head kick attempt in the 2nd. Not to mention he has been dropped twice tonight already. He might not make it to the finals. He also sounded exhausted.
Next up: Rico Verhoeven vs Nabil Khachab
Levi Rigters vs Tarik Khbabez - GLORY 77
Levi Rigters and Tarik Khbabez are both going to be in action this Saturday (Oct. 8) for Glory: Collision 4.
After a run at heavyweight ended in 3 straight finish losses (one again Rico Verhoeven), Tarik Khbabez is moving back down. To light heavyweight. Khbabez will be fighting for the vacant Glory light heavyweight title against Sergej Maslobojev.
Levi Ritgers is also going to be in action for Collision 4. The Dutch heavyweight will be facing Nigerian Tariq Osaro.
