"All of them, to me, seemed highly unapproachable." — The Secret History, Donna Tartt (19).
"Mm, yes, I understand, but— No, well, it’s not going to be a problem, it’s just— No, no worries, I got it under control then, yes. Yes, right, by the end of this week. I’ll keep you updated." Her back made contact with her bed, sheets messy and furled underneath her, as she let out a lengthy, exasperated sigh. She was due for another snippet recording for the new show she was doing with her sister this week, but things had apparently gone rogue over at Ceci in the last twenty-four hours, and they were currently in ‘desperate need’ of a five-page spread to advertise a last-minute request. According to the editor’s assistant she just got off the phone with, it was an offer they couldn’t refuse (Soojung assumed this meant a lot of money in exchange), and as one of the magazine’s go-to photographers (translated into ‘you’re the youngest and easiest to make do with’), please, please, please do this by Saturday, thank you.
It wasn’t the matter of taking pictures that Soojung had a problem with, oh no; it was the fact that they didn’t even bother to find a model themselves. And it wasn’t like she could just ask her roommate to be her impromptu model for the day — Eunji had more than enough to do this week, she knew, and to be quite frank, she didn’t really have the long limbs Ceci so desperately wished for. And so, with another heavy sigh, Soojung rolled herself off away from the comforts of her mattress, picked up her essentials (phone, wallet, and keys), and made her way out towards the main door.
Living in the Hongdae area came with big perks — for a photographer, at least — as there were many cafes to lounge around in and people-watch. It was how Soojung usually started her hump-day mornings since it was a nice relaxation method. But with the sudden assignment at hand, it turned out to be somewhat of a lifesaver because as soon as she found herself sitting in her usual spot in the outside patio area of the cafe she frequented often, she spotted a woman who would definitely be more than up-to-par for Ceci's standards. The look on the stranger's face was a little standoffish for Soojung's taste (on a scale of how approachable the person was, at least), but she had a job to do, and this unknown lady was absolutely perfect — and on her own!
