Hello! I was wondering if you could please elaborate on what you meant by America being the Dumbledore of YA? Thank you!
Similarly to Dumbledore, who was revealed gay after the series ended, America Chavez wasn't stated to be lesbian in-story and her confirmation came after the end of Young Avengers volume 2. Unlike Dumblebore however, it didn't even receive fanfare; to my knowledge, its only been talked about and confirmed on Kieron Gillen's personal Tumblr.
My issue is how when this similarity is brought up, the topic is shut down before it can be talked about. It is often shut down, again similar to Dumbledore, with "It was in the story; its obvious if you read between the lines!" -- but why should lesbians and bisexual women have to read between the lines to see women-women orientations represented?
Especially when you consider that Young Avengers has shown multiple male/female romances, a long running male/male romance, and (finally) confirmed one of its character to be bisexual (David Alleyne) who is appearing in other non-Young Avengers titles. Yet there has never been an on-screen female/female romance, and America Chavez (to my knowledge) isn't appearing in any other titles.
