The term 'evangelism' has been devaluated for many people today because it has been tied to an individualistic conception of salvation and has consequently seen its task to consist in evoking from the individual a personal decision that has consequences for his own soul’s welfare. But the gospel is not only good news for the individual; it is good news for the world. God, who created the world and saw that it was good, also loved the world and sent Jesus to redeem it. The good news must also proclaim that Christ has come to be the head and governor of God’s people, and that he leads this newly created people into righteousness. He teaches them the principles of God’s righteousness and draws them into a unity of witness for the truth of these principles.
