I should actually be writing essays.
But... I’d rather tell you all about my life right now! In the spirit of the holidays, I’ve been keeping a running list in my head of things I’m thankful for, and I wanted to get it out on paper (or the computer screen, but whatever) because Lord knows most of my posts have been depressing this term. LOL studying abroad is amazing, I swear.
Hokay. Here we go.
1. I’m living in ENGLAND. That’s pretty self explanatory.
2. Apparently the change of speech I’ve developed as a direct result of being surrounded by British accents all of the time is super cute. (To those who have told me this...I’ll be sad if you were lying.)
3. I have a wonderful family back home that’s coming to see me and pick me up at the end of my semester abroad. 10/10 would recommend.
4. I also have some of the coolest people in my life back home, including a crazy amazing boyfriend who’s stuck with me through a lot of hard stuff this term, would-be-roommates who sent me letters, and plenty of friends messaging and texting and generally checking up on me constantly these past few months. You all rock.
5. When I come home, it’ll be CHRISTMAS!!!
6. I’m really good at walking long distances now. (GETTIN’ SWOL ON THOSE WALKS TO SCHOOL, YO.)
7. I haven’t failed any of my assignments! (Yet...)
8. When I get back to Taylor, I’ll be a part of the IFC cabinet with some A+ people.
9. I’ll also have my very own apartment that I can decorate however I want and get all of my own dishes and appliances and I am so ready for that domestic life you have NO IDEA.
10. I have amazing friends here in York who are making it that much harder to say goodbye.
So anyways, I’m being a sap and filming all of my favorite places in York until the end of my term. I think this is my last post for now. The next time you hear from me, I’ll be state side and ready to fully process through my study abroad experience.
YAY.

Reading Week
Hiya! It’s been a while. It’s Reading Week here at York St. John University, which is basically a cool name for ‘spring break but it’s in the fall.’ I’ve been traveling around with my cousin and some of her friends, and today was my first day alone in a while. So I finally sat down and decided to write about how I’m feeling. Huzzah!
When my lovely Americans came to visit, I got to show them all around York. I got to experience their joy and wonder at my beautiful city, and it brought me right back to my first few weeks in England. I’m so incredibly in love with this magical place, and I’m dreading the day that I’ll have to leave.
BUT, when I think about being home and moved into my own apartment and seeing my friends and family again, I get excited. Like, I’ll-probably-ugly-cry-really-hard-when-I-see-them-again excited.
Have you ever been away from friends and family for months at a time? It’s not, like, the worst thing in the world. For the first month or so it’s actually kind of amazing. Independence, self-reliance, all of the introvert time a girl could ever want, etc. (insert blue Braveheart facepaint and a clear shot of me screaming “FREEEEEEDOM” at the top of my lungs)
But then little things start coming up that you just wish you had somebody there to lean on or vent to, and BAM their absence is so immediately felt. All of a sudden you realize you’ve only eaten a can of soup a day for a week and you watched an entire season of How To Get Away With Murder (Connor is my favorite and I’ll fight anybody who says he’s not a precious angel) in one day and then you realize your life isn’t necessarily so cool without your loved ones nearby after all.
So those of you who’ve lived abroad or just really far away for even just a little while, you get me.
It’s a little difficult to put my thoughts about my study abroad experience into words. I’m already anticipating the obvious question when I get home: “So, how was studying abroad?! Did you love it?!”
And it’s like, uh YEAH. I DID. TAKE ME BACK BEFORE I BREAK DOWN SOBBING IN FRONT OF YOU RIGHT NOW.
But then I’ll just have to be like, “It was great!” And I’ll try and pull off that tight smile that I get when I’m trying to be nice and polite when I really don’t want to be, but I’ll end up just sort of awkwardly grimacing until they change the subject to something equally hard to answer like, “When are you and Sean getting married?” or, my personal favorite, “Why are you voting for Bernie Sanders?”
(To which I’ll give a full powerpoint presentation, lecture, and feature length film describing my political views because I SO TOTALLY FEEL THE BERN.)
Anyways, I guess the point I’m trying to make here amongst all of this rambling is that I have VERY mixed feelings about going home in December. On the one hand, I’ll get to eat food with ranch dressing again. But on the other hand, I have to leave this city and the lovely people I’ve met (LOOKING AT YOU, GRACE & VICTORIA.) and I’ll have to say goodbye and maybe not come back for a few years and JUST PLEASE DO NOT MAKE ME LEAVE.
Really, what I’m saying is that, to all my friends and family back home, I will be a fragile, sleep deprived mess when I come back. So be gentle and, if you’re going to ask me anything, please don’t ask me emotional things, because I’ll start ugly crying in front of you. (Unless you’re prepared to hold me and make me some tea while I sob, then go for it.)
Yikes.
