Elias was brimming with confidence. His job was super easy, no sweat! He had been trained in the sword for decades and while he was no kind of palace guardian or knight of the realm, he would happily continue patrolling the forests as a Forest Keeper day and night. Thieves and other similar sneaks were easy enough to deal with, and people with a legitimate purpose for passing through made for a good yet brief chat before they continued on their way. That's how he usually felt, anyway. This, however, was not something he was accustomed to. It was a beast bigger and taller than him with teeth like knives and eyes which glared into his soul. He knew it was not a creature from these parts, and had little idea how it could have ever ended up in these quiet parts. Even were he a master with his epee, he had doubts he could ever defeat such a beast. As the beast closed in on Elias, already knocked to the ground and having resorted to backing away, he felt that this must be the end. Where's backup when you need it? It was closer than he thought, apparently, as the beast was felled in one fell swoop. Elias, who was trying to comprehend what had just happened, blinked. Once. Twice. Nope. Maybe a few more would do it. As he caught his breath, Elias looked with wide eyes to the man who had just saved his life.
