Daily Sketchbook 12/10
Get out your photo, pen and sketchbook from last time, and continue working on your drawing. Make it as complete as possible, and if you feel like you “finish” the animal, can you add more detail to the animal? Can you add an environment? Probably. So if you “finish”, please do that. Annnnnnd, go.

Please get out an ipad and find a funny-ish picture of an animal that you like. For me that would likely be a polar bear or a CA quail.
On top of the watercolor you did on 12/2, begin drawing that photo directly in pen. Don’t worry about rushing through as you don’t need to finish this in one day.
Maybe challenging yourself with hatch, direct and in pen, would be a good idea? Who knows what will come of it?

Newspaper Blackout version.
If you don’t know who Austin Kleon is, you should. He “got his start” by doing these newspaper blackouts and has had an interesting career ever since.
On your own time I would suggest looking at more of his work online and listening to some of the talks that he has given. Super interesting and creativity filled for sure.
For today grab a RANDOM text filled page (I have a selection on my desk for you) and rubber cement it in to the next available page in your sketchbook.

After that, grab a sharpie and begin to create your own newspaper blackout poem.
Don’t worry about it being amazing poetry, the point is to be goofy and have fun. Don’t try to make full sentences as you would write them for a paper. It’s supposed to be poetry after all.

Daily Sketchbook 10/21
Tommy Kane edition.
There are a lot of different ways to draw. You know this - or should know this by now.
You may also know that I am a fan of the work of Tommy Kane. So much liveliness and character.
I want you to go to HIS BLOG and pick one of the images he has there to recreate. If you see overlapping, do that. If you see something a different color, don’t do that. If you see a funky proportion, copy that too.
And smile.
DON’T, though, go back beyond Sept of 2015. You shouldn’t spend a lot of time deciding on which image to use, just get started asap.
Tommy Kane doesn’t use a pencil, just fyi. It’s all straight to paper with pen. If you want to do the same. It’s fun. Really.
