the thing is that as a charlie fan i’ve learned to expect the unexpected with him.. even in the past, remember monza 24 when he looked so miserable and said it was impossible to get the mclarens but then he won. and then in abu dhabi 24 when he didn’t even expect to gain too much positions but then jumped from p19 to p8 in one lap. or when he said in singapore that he’ll never get another podium this season only to get more back to back. i think he’s so used to things going badly that sometimes he too is very surprised when things actually go well

so think we can all see leon’s a very capable guy, n he needs someone jus as strongwilled n self reliant as him. but leon’s also very patient, a lil rough around the edges but he cares so much. maybe a lil too much. n i can picture this goin two ways!!

if you work with him, leon’s thrown for a loop. i mean, s’you. all strong n tough!! he’s never even seen you cry! but he doesn’t know you’ve built up a dam, n it’s sloooowly collapsing under water pressure. first it’s the poor lil dog you saw sleepin next to his infected packmate, then it was accidentally scrapin your knee on a particularly rough landin, then it was leon’s almost noncommittal n awkward tone of voice when you try to make small talk. you try to hold it in, really, you do!! you try your hardest!! but bein a crybaby isn for the faint of heart— even if it seems like it. so when you burst into tears leon’s jus… stunned. he’s seen you cry over lil stuff of course, he’s your boyfriend!! but never on a mission. he knows what to do, cause he knows you, gives you a teensy tiny lil smile n wipes away the waterworks with his big hands. leon’s much better with his words (all that hostage trainin really paid off!), he’ll drag you somewhere safe to patch you up n coddle you jus for a few minutes. tells you some reaaaally bad jokes to keep your mind off all those sad things): part of him gets it, but as the years go by he’s gotten kinda numb, really it’s seein you upset that’ll actually get him wound up.

if you’re a civilian!! n, yknow, not exactly sculpted into the perfect soldier— he’s not as surprised. leon has more time, it’s easier to help how he wants to when time is finally on his side. he thinks it’s endearing, really! n when he’s not talkin you down, at least… leon’s voice is so soothin he knows it’ll ground you if he starts talkin. maybe you cry cause you miss him (even when he’s right in front of you), maybe you cry cause you’re gonna miss him (you never know when he’s gonna leave). or maybe you cry just to cry, cause your heart is so full. doesn matter, he’ll comfort you all the same, shushin you quietly n pattin your back. if he’s a lil occupied he’ll keep comforting you, jus while finishin somethin tedious. but if you’re really upset. like genuinely. he resorts fully to talkin. he wants you to tell him what’s got you so wound up. n he might not have an answer to your problem!! let alone a solution!! but he’s gonna try so hard. n maybe he can’t quite form the sentences he’s thinkin, but he’s lettin the words spill out while you sniffle beside him.

sometimes you can hear him mumble ‘cute..’ when he’s wipin away your tears. he may or may not think your post-cryin face is kinda hot
