I think one internet commenter put it best when they wrote this:
I believe that every time I have seen Amanda Palmer's name in print, it might as well have been followed by "said/did something stupid."
She’s a former front-woman for a band (I have no opinion on their music, but I believe they were moderately popular/successful back in the day) called the Dresden Dolls, and she’s... a lot. Ever met someone who’s convinced that everything that comes out of any of their orifices is pure genius/high art, and that anything of theirs that you don’t like is just because you “don’t get it”? She’s the patron saint of those sorts of tiresome, condescending, affected art-school attention whores.
She’s turned pretension into a lifestyle.... picture the kind of person who would show up to a red carpet event, insisting the entire time that she’s not a Hollywood type, she doesn’t “do” celebrity, yadda yadda yadda, then make the entire evening about her when she decides to do a full costume change (complete with stripping off underpants) in front of the paparazzi (TRUE FUCKING STORY).
This link has a decent roundup of some of the more egregious ways she’s shown her ass up to about 2015, but even more recently she used her platform and her fans to harass a music journalist from the Guardian who she somehow got it into her head had “blacklisted” her shit from being reviewed (it hadn’t been), and now this classless stunt with her breakup. She’s an opportunist, a narcissist, and just generally insufferable.
In my opinion.
