An idiot robin has built a nest on top of our garage door motor. The nest was constructed so the chain that drives the door is actually a part of the nest, and if we open or close the garage door, the whole thing is going to get torn apart. So I guess the garage door is staying open for as long as it takes for these eggs to hatch and these birds to leave the nest.
My wife has set up a camera to continuously monitor the situation.
Wife: Maybe we should set up some padding beneath where they'll fall out of the nest? Normally they fall onto grass, not concrete. Me: Seems like we're really coddling these birds. Wife: Well, yeah. Me: I just don't want you to get invested. Wife: Way, way too late for that. I'm all in.
So we're keeping the garage door open for a few weeks, I guess. Whenever I go to use the car, the robin flies away from the nest and watches me cautiously to see whether I'm going to kill her babies, and I can't help but find that a little bit rude of her.
Pictured here, the robin hopping into her nest to settle in for some egg warming.
Two of the three eggs have hatched, these are some ugly babies.
Feeding the babies!
All three are now hatched, here's more feeding time.
And here they are up close, in their resting state.

“Maybe I like looking trans "oh your voice is too deep" Maybe I like having a deep voice. Maybe I'm not your femme fantasy. Maybe I'm my own fantasy. I love looking trans. I fucking hope that when I walk down the street, they say, "look at that transsexual!" And just maybe someone will see me and think, "hey, I can live that way, too."”
If I have to give you my credit card information, you are not offering me a "free trial." You're offering a bonus week with the purchase of your program, and you should really just say that.
Sure I can allegedly "opt out at any time" but that's asking me to put an immense amount of trust in a stranger who's trying to get my cc info.
And I've been on the internet for far too long to give anyone that kind of benefit of the doubt.
When you offer me a fake free trial that is obviously designed to manipulate me into purchasing your service, I will assume you're doing that because your service isn't actually very good, and if I tried it, I wouldn't want it.
If I press your "free trial button" and it immediately prompts me for my cc info, this is an insult to my honor, and we are enemies now.
You guys are never gonna believe what I found online:
A 3D-Printed, Comic Sans Mono Typeball for an IBM Selectric II Typewriter! Why does this font actually look so natural and fitting for a typewriter?? And it's only $8! This guy is doing the lord's work.
Holy shit. How come I never thought of 3d printing font-balls for my Selectric. That's the coolest fucking thing. There's unlimited possibilities with this.
The link in the OP is dead now, but the source is https://selectricrescue.org/. They also have Papyrus (1983).
trans bears are literally stronger than any US marine
How on earth would they be able to tell that a bear is trans. I’m not saying they can’t be but how would they communicate that.
:/
this is so fucking funny

The surest sign that US bullshit is toxic to the discourse of every other country is how many Canadians don't realize that Canada has always maintained full diplomatic relations with Cuba. We are not on the US side in this one! We never were!
Indeed, any Canadian who thinks that current and past US intervention in Cuba is reasonable because the Cuban government isn't free ought to really consider who the people deciding it's 'not free' are and whether they might not always have the same priorities or definition of freedom as you.
The only reason Canada is the one getting the '51st state' jabs instead of Cuba is... well, you know. Same reason Peurto Rico isn't a state.
hey friends where is that picture of boromir with the gondor flag except its a pride flag?
Couldn’t find it so I made another because you’re right that it’s a crime and it’s definitely my duty to remedy it
The midjourney stuff just reminds of when we were trying to find a new platform to host the ao3 donation form, and companies kept trying to tell me about all their "ai" features that would track donor engagement, and figure out the optimal pattern to email individual donors asking for follow up donations, and all the ways they suggest we manipulate people into staying on our websites. It was a great way to filter out who either wasn't listening to us when we described our ethics and donor base, or just didn't believe us.
Now granted ao3 is a unique case based on a) the amount of page views we get in any given time period and b) the fact that most donors absolutely do Not want to be identified as such anywhere, (the default "list of recent donors" module got nuked Immediately) but it surprised me some that the concept of "donors who value their privacy and would be furious at even the whiff of AI" is unique. Some of us really are just existing in different worlds.

#I just started dropping '2.5 Billion page views a month'#into conversations as early as possible bc they would Not believe me otherwise#it was right up there with having to say 'csam attacks' to get them to take my compartmentalization of information concerns seriously#turns out those are the magic words#otw#op
The last part was kind of insane, honestly. When we started changing platforms for the donor database, I kept telling them that yes I was aware we already had an account for the volunteer database, and no that could not be connected to the donor database. And they said yes fine sure and then connected them anyway. And I called them back and said, excuse me, I'm confused, I can see both databases. And they said, well, yeah, but it's only you, someone has to be able to see both databases to give other users access. The other users can't see both. And I said, no, we have been asking for a completely separate database. I should not be able to see both. And they said, you are one organization, one organization can't have two databases. And I said, last year someone used our volunteer email list to commit approximately one thousand felonies. Please feel free to imagine how much worse it could have been had they had a way to use volunteers' email addresses to get their legal names. We do not want this to be something anyone can do no matter how much we trust them. Let me describe those felonies to you in more detail. And they emailed me two hours later and said, you can have two separate databases.
This post feels like watching an iceberg go by in clear water. The amount of stuff going on beneath the surface of AO3 just astonishes.
