LIBERAL Studies? What about CONSERVATIVE Studies?!

Yes many of these are covered in school for 5-18 years, but university courses are taught with more nuance and analysis than courses for younger students.

Hey! Nice blog. I was just wondering that where will you be able to teach with your degree ( like HS, middle school, etc.) . Also, when did you make up your mind that you wanted to be a teacher?

Hi! I’m planning to go into elementary school teaching! My major in Liberal Studies focuses primarily on K-8 education, and in order to teach at a public school (which is what I’m hoping to do) you need a teaching credential as well as your bachelor’s degree. Once I graduate I’m hoping to do a multiple-subject teaching credential, which is a year-long program. There are also other paths to becoming a certified teacher, but I’m pretty sure that’s the one that makes the most sense for me.

I made up my mind that I would try and pursue teaching just over a year ago, actually! I switched my major from Graphic Communication in winter 2020 so I’ve been in my current major for right around a year now. It’s definitely been a weird time to start going into education, since we have to learn how to teach without being able to actually interact in-person with any kids, but hopefully things will be opening up again soon here! Regardless, I’ve been totally loving it, and every class I’ve taken has made me fall in love with the field even more!!!

I'm currently taking a class called Visual Arts in the Elementary Classroom which has certainly been interesting to try and do online! We're learning about different types of projects and how to teach them, and this is one of the pieces we learned how to guide students through! It's watercolor and oil pastel, definitely had a lot of fun making it last week during our Zoom "lab" meeting :')
