Hello from my office on a Sunday afternoon,
Over the past 36 hours or so, I have spent my time on two things. First, managing the initial blogs that have come in and second, moving beyond the holiday season at my house, both inside and out. The outside is pretty well completed, including a serious cleaning of my garage, and the inside will be completed today, much to Anton’s chagrin, though he…

Hello everyone! My name is Taylor Eling and I’m looking forward to sharing my GT experiences with you all. First though, I thought I’d give you a bit of background about me.
This fall I will be a fourth year - it feels like my time at Tech has gone by so quickly! I’m majoring in International Affairs and Modern Languages (IAML), and my language concentration is German. I have never regretted my choice in major, after living abroad in high school. I knew that I wanted to study how the countries of the world interact with each other. But I also wanted to major in a foreign language, and one of my sorority sisters told me about the amazing IAML program. It has been absolutely perfect for me. I’ve been able to take some fascinating classes, like Post-War German Literature and Scenario and Pathgaming.
Being at Tech has given also given me the opportunity to study abroad twice. I completed the French Language for Business and Technology (LBAT) program the summer after my first year, and the German LBAT in the summer after my second year. I could talk about the LBAT programs all day long; they were both amazing experiences, and really helped my language skills.
On campus, I am in a sorority, I’m a member of the German Club, and last spring I joined the new Dressage Team with the GT Equestrian Club. I’ve also worked at the Naugle CommLab in the Clough building as a peer tutor since the spring semester in 2017, and I just recently became an Ivan Allen College Ambassador. My clubs plus my classes mean I’m never bored!
This summer, I’m completing my very first internship, in Washington, DC. The last time I was here, I was really little, so it has been great to explore the city again. I’m staying in Alexandria just across the river, so I’m also spending time in the Old Town, which kind of reminds me of my hometown, Savannah, Georgia. My internship is keeping me very busy during the week, but I generally have plenty of time on the weekends. Over the next few posts, I’ll be sharing some of my experiences here in the DC area.
[By the way, this photo of me is from last summer when I was in Germany, hiking with friends around Garmisch-Partenkirchen.]
Georgia Institute of Technology science fiction scholar Lisa Yaszek will be featured on the upcoming AMC program, James Cameron’s Story of Science Fiction — a new series from the director of science fiction blockbusters such as Avatar, Alien, and The Terminator. The six-part series, which airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET, explores the “evolution of science fiction from its cult beginnings in pulp to the engine for blockbuster film and television success it is today,” according to the network. Lisa will appear in all six episodes. http://www.amc.com/shows/james-camerons-story-of-science-fiction/season-1?dclid=CODit_PI2NoCFZLYwAodarkNdQ
