It's funny in a way, as things get worse (and oh boy are they getting worse) I actually feel more sympathy for the esteemed members of the Tumblr DNC. They really don't understand what's happening, and their analytical frames are largely useless to them. In fact, they've spent the last several days blaming South Park, a TV show, for the monstrosity consuming US political life. South Park! Because it inculcates the idea that "caring about things is cringe." That's why jackbooted thugs are detaining and brutalising green card holders. Because of a cartoon.

It's really insane to me to see anglosphere liberals like Oz still doing this whole "why don't you move to China" song and dance. My sister did just that! She lived there for four and a half years and it was great. I visited her and I loved it. You can go on the internet and see what life is like in China, from the perspective of both natives and foreigners. The idea that it's some Stalinist hellhole is very obviously not true.
But Cold Warriors like Oz are unwilling or unable to update their rhetoric. Here's hoping their pigheadedness helps along the West toward its inevitable downfall!
Sure I've got a career that I love and a fabulous husband and a full social life and enjoyable hobbies and real activist cred and the respect of my peers BUT mariacallous does get more notes on tumblr from fandom-brained Swiftie Democrats than I do, so I guess my life sucks compared to hers. Sad!
