If you ever need a reason to visit Zutphen here it is: the so-called Librije of the Walburgiskerk. It was built from 1561 to 1564 as a public library and is the oldest library (still in existance) of the Netherlands. It still contains its original interior and furnishing and even a large part of its original collection (about 750 books among which 5 manuscripts abd85 incunabula) has survived to this day. The Librije is a chained library which means that the books are chained to the lecterns. In Europe only three of such chained libraries still exist at their original location.
