An aquatic feline from Librum Prodigiosum! The Orabou, a legendary fish described in French cosmographers André Thevet’s Cosmographie Universelle in 1575- a work made to describe every part of the known world. This unusual beastie was said to live in the ocean by Mount Marzouan, they were 9 feet long and apparently had foul-tasting flesh which caused kidney stones if ingested!

A Hippalectryon for Librum Prodigiosum

In Greek mythology the Hippalectryon was a creature with the forequarters of a horse, and the tail, wings and back-legs of a rooster.

Another beastie from Librum Prodigiosum! A Vishap dragon, this evil flying serpent comes from Armenian mythology! It is said to cause storms and eclipses, but more ominously is it known to steal children in order to replace them with its own!

An aquatic beast for Librum Prodigiosum ! The Afanc, from Welsh mythology! This lake monster is vicious, killing anyone who swims in its lake- there are many stories of failed attempts to subdue the beast, often ending in tragedy!

A dragon from Librum Prodigiosum ! The Illuyanka dragon, from Hittite mythology! The Hittite empire was centred around what is now Turkey, from ~1600-1180 BCE! This serpent like dragon was eventually slain by the god of sky and storm!

A colossal beast from Librum Prodigiosum! Lou Carcolh, a giant snail monster from French folklore! It’s long, extensive, and slimy tentacles can reach out for miles to snag unsuspecting victims and devour them!
