WIP Wedn.... Whenever

so i WAS gonna try to do this on wednesday but..... oh who am i kidding, i only just started something worthy of a post

today i present screenshots of not one, but TWO pieces!! that are intended to be companion pieces!! and im going CRAZY over this idea of mine i swear. one must imagine me vibrating and running in circles and jumping up and down.

It's not quite pride month, but I really really wanted to draw these two together!

I've said in the tags of posts about them that they're in a queerplatonic relationship, but I don't think I've ever said it in the post itself, so here!

Really, that's the label I apply to them, because they don't really put any sort of labels on their relationship in canon. They're best friends and committed to one another, but they're not dating; they're each other's most important person, beyond any kind of label :)

4. How would they describe each other if asked? Physically? In personality?

Ragnar: "Jenais? Well, he's the Altmer over there. Tall as a giant and skinny as a twig. This one tries to get him to eat more, but he is stubborn. He's... a unique man. Not many are patient enough to get past his poisonous exterior. This one sees the good in him, though. It promises it's there. But, yes, he is not very approachable, and his necromancy deters many. Ah... this one promises he does like him. It is just... hard to explain why? Most do not understand... Jenais was this one's first friend. He helped this one through a very hard time. And he is the only one who genuinely appreciates Jenais for who he is, and sees who he is. Many do not understand or refuse to understand that about us, but it is true." Jenais: "Ragnar's a brown Khajiit. Too nice for his own good. And, uh, it's my best friend. That answer your damn question? Fuck off."

8. How do they communicate with each other? Are there any recurring phrases or gestures unique to their relationship?

OH WHERE IS IT I TALKED ABOUT THIS BEFORE... AHA! From an ask I answered a little while ago: "Jenais doesn't really love, not in the traditional sense, but he feels so so strongly for Ragnar that it scares him. At times when he stands his ground against his urge to curl back into himself and run away, he says that he's scared. And Ragnar knows what that means." So that's one thing about them that makes me so insane. They also communicate a lot nonverbally; they just... understand each other on such a deep level that words are not needed a lot of the time. 15. Do they trust each other? Why or why not?

Ragnar often feels like he might be an idiot for it (especially when they're just first getting to know each other and traveling together), but he does. It's not entirely misplaced, but he might have been a bit naive to trust him so quickly, especially after he betrayed him (it's a whole thing, but Jenais pretended to be Runil in Falkreath and took care of Ragnar after he was attacked by a dragon. Ragnar eventually finds out and is very pissed). But, Ragnar's unwavering trust in Jenais does pay off, as Jenais makes for a very devoted companion and powerful ally. It's hard for Jenais to trust, but he does come to trust Ragnar eventually. Only after he's 100% certain that its kindness is not a ruse to make him let his guard down and then attack him. Once he realizes Ragnar is genuine, he puts his full trust in it. Jenais would fight his way through Oblivion for Ragnar without question.

21. What is their worst memory together?

OH BOY. That's a tough one, actually. I'm probably gonna have to throw in some more angst for them (right now Ragnar's story is just a lose collection of plot points on an extremely rough timeline :'D), but right now I'll say it's when Ragnar tricked Jenais and left him behind when it went to Sovngarde to defeat Alduin. I have mentioned it before, but in my canon, time flows slower in Sovngarde, so Jenais is alone for a while. It was for Jenais' own good, in Ragnar's eyes, but Jenais was angry and devastated. They probably have a bit of a fight over it after the relief of Ragnar being back alive wears off. A runner-up is probably when they go to the College of Winterhold. I just know that's gonna be a bad time given Jenais' history there and that his estranged sister is the Arch-mage.
