How to Live Alone For the First Time: A Complete Survival Guide
Things from my world...
What I've learned not living at home (meaning without having my parents do everything for me).
By Alycia Dalfonsi.
There really isn’t very much to this post, only this amazing list I compiled for you all with a list of things I have learnt through living alone.
Apparently no one is there to pick up after you so you have to clean yourself ?
Speaking of cleaning, showers get DIRTY which like kind of makes sense because you use it to wash off your dirt... but anyways... to really clean a shower you have to get down and DIRTY and literally scrub it with a short handled brush avec a bottle of shower cleaner.
Lights don't just turn off by themselves, you gotta use the switch located on the wall usually in arms reach near said light fixture.
Laundry am I right ?! You have to split that stuff up by colour and such and some things can't go in the dryer so you have to sort some more and it's all sorts of mess.
Also there's like a million kinds of detergents with slight differences and Tahreem and I once washed our clothes for a few months with fabric softener, which evidently is not detergent.
Also laundry after 6 is cheaper so when your laundry basket is full it's time for a full out all nighter to do the laundry you haven't done in a good month.
Baseboards. Probably an unfamiliar word but it's that chunk of material that kind of attaches the floors to the walls ?? ( I'll link y'all to a pic here) those get DIRTY I don't even understand how but you have to get on your hands and knees Cinderella style to wipe them off.
Dinner time comes along and you are hungry, but guess what there's no one to make your food for you??? You have to cook it yourself which takes a million years so the lesson here is start cooking before you are really hungry.
Groceries cost so much money. I head to the grocery store thinking I'm going to spend like 20$ on two things and I end up in express checkout with a 200$ bill and all I have to my name is fruité juice and some boxes of presidents choice chocolate chip cookies??
You have to remember to take out the trash. Also you have to remember that not everything is trash #recycle
Your house temperature doesn't control itself and you have to be smart about when you start the A/C or heating back up so your bill won't send you into a frenzy.
Lights burn out and things need to be nailed to walls, tables break and things need fixing all the time but you don't own a toolbox or tools because #dads am I right ???
You have to learn how to make beneficial decisions for yourself like if you should hang with your friends past midnight or go to bed early (I always pick the latter)
Things go wrong and you will probably have to either a) talk on the phone to adults about said problem or b) come in face to face contact with an adult to solve problems.
You realize you refer to everyone as an adult but yourself even though you ARE an adult as you are 20 years old.
You realize you are still learning and will probably never stop because there's always a new light to fix, an air conditioning problem you know nothing about, and a nail you can't hammer in your walls bc you don't own the tools.
Living greatly,
Alycia xx
I’ve finally figured out how to zip through my cats’ claws with the clippers by myself!
It’s been 6 months alone and I’ve been doing a single claw each time I catch them snoozing. Now I’ve learned how to trap them with my legs and go SNIP

The worst part about moving to live alone, was I tried so hard to move out first, because I didn't want to see the house empty of Adrien's things. Fuck I miss them. Fuck I miss Ray. I miss Lucky. I'm now alone with my mental illness. Never had to do this before. I wish I had more community here. I wish there wasn't asbestos and lead paint in my apartment. I wish somebody would hold me.
Sometimes I wonder if there is anyone out there for me.
Someone who knows how to live with someone whose broken.
Someone who will never run. However hard it gets.
Being able to cook for myself is amazing. Being able to make mistakes and learn and grow from them is amazing.
