Chapter 1
Seeing is believing. A famous sentence that has been around for a long time. But what does it really mean? There are many things you can just believe by hearing it, imagining it, and other possible ways. But everyone in the world has different preferences. Some prefer to see it, in order to believe it. And that is the only way they can believe. In this case, many things can be believable with powers being a real thing. It's as if this world has come out of a fantasy book. People walk the earth with a power called a 'Quirk'. A quirk can be anything, with hair being as sharp as a knife, or skin being as hard as a rock. People have ears and a tail like animals. People can have amazing hearing abilities, or body enlargement abilities. So much more that not everyone knows about.
A girl has been on her own in a big city in Japan. A world full of quirks, but she doesn't seem to have one. A world full of danger, but she doesn't seem to be scared. Nobody knows her, and nobody has seen her. That is, until she sees something she couldn't just look away from.
When you see a bird, helplessly standing in the middle of the road with a vehicle coming right at it, what do you do? You save it, no matter what. And that's what the girl did. She drops her bag on the sidewalk, running as fast as she could towards the helpless bird. Her legs lift off of the paved road as she launches to the bird. A loud screech from a person pressing down hard on the breaks to stop the vehicle. Screams were heard, then suddenly it was quiet.
The girl opens her eyes, slight pain in her body. But she was fine. She looks down in her arms, finding the bird resting against her chest. She lets out a sigh of relief, relaxing her tense body.
"Call the ambulance!" A woman is heard yelling. The girl sits up as much as she could, wincing at the small pain coming from her lower back and right arm. She looks up, finding a woman and a man kneeling next to her, asking questions.
"Are you okay?" The woman asks.
"Are you hurt?" The man asks.
The girl looks down at the bird, gently laying it on her lap. The man and woman look down as well, nothing but shock placed onto their faces. "You were saving a bird?" The man asks. "Why would you risk your life for a measly bird?"
The girl ignores his words as she touches the bird, looking if the bird was hurt or not. The bird seems to be fine, but she isn't a professional, so she'll have to take it to the vet. She slowly stands up, the bird in hand. The woman and man try to make her stay so she can get checked, but she doesn't listen.

The bell chimes as the door opens. A girl pokes her head through, looking for someone that could help. It was quite a walk, but she made it just in time before the vet closed. A woman walks out from behind the counter, looking down at the bird in the girls’ arms.
"Oh my! Let me take him from you, dear." She says sweetly, gently taking the bird from the girl. The girl follows her to the counter. The woman examines the bird. "What happened?"
"It almost got ran over by a car, but I saved it just in time. I wanted to make sure that there was nothing wrong with it." The girl answers.
"Are you alright? I mean, you look fine, but do you need to go to a doctor?"
The girl shakes her head. "Is the bird alright?"
The woman looks at the girl in question, as she was worried for her. But she decided to let it go. She was astonished knowing that girl is worried about the bird more than her own life. "I'll go examine him in the back. Thank you for bringing him. You can leave him to us."
"I would like to stay. Um....it's my bird.... anyways." She slowly says, as if she's questioning her own answer.
"Oh..." The woman picks up the bird after a small pause. "I suppose that's alright. I'll try to be quick, then." The woman walks in the back room with the bird.
—————————————
After an hour has passed, the woman comes back with the bird. "He's a healthy hawk! He was in shock for a bit, so I calmed him down. But it seems he had a broken wing for a while now. But he's here today thanks to you for saving him, my dear." She says, before handing the bird off to the girl.
The girl smiles, holding it in her arms. "Thank you so much. You are very kind for doing this." The woman nods in response, sending the girl off into the night.
The girl walks along the empty sidewalk on her way to home. So this is a male hawk...? Her thoughts wonder off to the bird in her arms. It was quite large, with it being at least 18 inches tall. It wasn't as heavy as she thought, either. The bird was a golden-brown color, with bright red wings. An unusual color for a normal bird, but she liked it. It made her smile to see the uniqueness in a bird she saved.
The girl didn't realize she was staring into the hawks’ eyes until it suddenly started to move around, as if to get out of her grasp. She ends up opening her arms, letting it fall to the ground. She was thinking it would land on its feet, like a cat, but instead it falls onto its back. One wing was fluttering around, the other being in a bandage.
"S-stop moving! Your injured!" She tries to calm it down.
"How am I supposed to calm down when I'm a bird!"
The girl goes to respond but stops immediately. She freezes in her crouched position, looking behind her to see who has spoken. Nobody was there, making her slowly look back at the bird. "Did...did you just talk...?" She suddenly asks the bird. She soon starts to laugh, shaking her head. "Of course not! Animals don't talk..." she awkwardly smiles.
"Stop doing that. It's creepy." The voice speaks again.
...
She jumps back. Her bottom hitting the slightly wet cement ground. "There's no way! A... a bird is talking..."
The hawk slowly gets up onto its feet, flapping its wings to get comfortable, then tucking them in. "Yeah, I'm a talking bird. Although I wish I wasn't." He says.
"Is your quirk shapeshifter or something?" She asks, slowly succumbing to the situation. She leans forward, to where she has crossed her legs.
"No. If it was, then I would've turned back to normal by now."
"So then... you were originally human?" She looks around her, making sure that there was no one around to see her talking to a bird. Luckily, there wasn't anybody there. "Let's head home and talk there. It's the middle of the night on the street."
The bird cocks his head to the side, his eyes becoming slits as if he's glaring at the girl. "Why should I trust you?"
She looks at him in awe. "I saved you, didn't I?" She says, standing up.
The hawk sweat drops. "Oh....yeah, I guess you did." He lets the girl pick him up and carry him back to her home.
————————————
"What's your name?" The hawk asks the girl as she sets him down on one of her couches. She sits down on the opposite couch, facing the hawk.
"(Y/N). Yours? Or....you have one, right?"
The hawk looks outside the window in thought. "Just call me Hawk." He says at last.
The girl nods. "So, you were human? How did you get like this?"
Hawk looks down in thought once again, taking longer to answer this time. "I don't.... remember..." He looks up in realization.
"I'm so sorry..." (Y/N) says. The room becomes quiet for a few minutes, until (Y/N) comes up with an idea. "I'll help you remember!" Her sudden exclamation brings Hawk back to his senses.
".... How?"
"I'm sure that your memories will come back if you see something familiar! Like a person, or a place."
Hawk nods in understanding. "I suppose your right! Thanks, (Y/N)." He seems to smile at her, but she can't really tell. She smiles anyway.
"Glad to help! Knowing your situation, there's no way I can just leave you on the streets."
So if I was a normal bird, she'd leave me out to die... Hawk sweat drops at her words, but is thankful, nonetheless.
So, I almost lost all of my work for the new Dragon AU chapter - 3,500+ words would’ve been down the drain.
I was working on my new AU earlier in another doc while I was out today, so I was just going to copy-n-paste the text into the proper document.
I was doing this on my phone so I could just refresh my laptop & get to writing. What I hadn’t realised, however, was due to mobile Word automatically opening the file you had opened last, I had just pasted the text onto the file with my new chapter, effectively erasing all my hard work.
Thank god for the history function.
