Idolater Small watercolour A bright fugitive pink that I adore, dominates against the deep hues of pthalo turquoise and violet. The colours produce a deep vibration. I would like to paint this very large. I read a story by Jane Gardam where a beautiful Brazilian was so hurt by the abandonment of her lover, a rather common or garden Englishman, she lay in a kind of coma on a cold deserted beach, glittering in the moonlight. On the end she let out a great sigh and returned to the hotel, enigmatic as ever. There is often a huge gap between us and our idols, and often our idols are strangely insufficient, and fickle. I think of her returned to her homeland. Female Herm with flowers Veronica Aldous Watercolour I like the idea of shrines and was fascinated by one as a child. As a child I loved the Lady Chapel. Ours had a vaulted gold mosaic ceiling. It seemed a happier place, to be than the cold main church. To be with a mother image and see the flames from the candles warming the golden chamber. The painting does not depict this, but is an abstract form dissolving into painterly marks. The Greeks, with the endless appreciation of the male, placed stony herms at the roadside. Mine is a living herm , a female bursting into floral forms. I feel rather tired by the Internet, it's endless hashtags and rivalry. It has nothing to do with my art. It's a very fake and full of greed and liars. It is entirely limited. We have placed so much faith in it and our systems can easily be breached and attacked. Of the water. Sketch I'm of the opinion that people do not draw enough, or regard their drawings, as part of a process of thought and imagination. When I first started drawing, I would draw a skeleton, then add flesh and then clothes! Now we are obsessed with finish. A still life drawing made for practice Contrary to the title, 90% of the time I spent on this drawing was dedicated to the shading around the bananas, which funny trivia point, is actually meant to be fabric. I know, I wouldn’t be able to tell either, pfft x3
